Yeah it's unfortunate that the Indians GM was foolish enough to make that trade. Maton and Diaz have both helped the Astros a lot.

Church was arguably the best RP of spring training for the Rangers. He didn't do anything wrong, and other than getting more innings, doesn't really need to fix or work on anything. He was sent down because the Rangers don't want to lose Urena, and also because early in the season they're going to need pitchers capable of throwing multiple innings...Church is more of a one inning guy, he has options, and so down he goes. Tough break for the kid, because he pitched great in Arizona.

I don't disagree with why he was sent down. I am very positive on him and indeed expect him to contribute in 2024. He is giving up 4.6 BB9 in AA and 5.7 in AAA.

With the thin air in Az, I say let him go to Round Rock for a few weeks to let him regain some control and bring him up.

I'm really hoping most of these guys show positive and make the Rangers have some hard decisions.

Interview with Bochy the last couple days he said there will be guys that did everything they asked of them, and still get sent down and that is the nature of where the Rangers are.

Hopefully some team (NL) needs Urena more than than the Rangers when it is time to bring Church up.

I had heard Ornelas had already taken 36, last year. The radio was speculating if Wyatt would get 36, since that was his number at Florida.

So, Walsh, Urena, and Langford are all NRI that need a move on the 40 to open up a spot.

Obvious possibilities include Mahle and Scherzer to the 60.

Recent hope was that Scherzer could be available late May/early June within the 60 day window (including backdating). I'm sure he wants to get back as soon as possible.

I don't think Mahle is projected to return until July/Aug, so he is a no-brainer.

Jose Barrero is likely to go. I'd like to see him ultimately end up in the minors for the Rangers.

I think those are 3 moves.

I may be wrong but I don't think there is draft pick compensation next year if he opts out. Might be a good pick up next off-season.

You have to think some shine is off Boras after this year. His clients came nowhere near what they wanted and Montgomery really ended up in a crappy situation.

I can't imagine the CBT doesn't get some major overhaul in the next CBA.

What's funny. Is that the players are blaming the union and want new representation. They don't think for a second that maybe Boras is the problem.

Well one of the reasons the players wanted Meyer out was how close he and Boras are.

I wonder if the teams are started to balk at more of the increasing demands for longer and longer term deals instead of just the AAV. These 5-7 year long contracts when a player hits 30+ is a bit crazy given all the risk is on the teams since they are all guaranteed.

It was reported that Lorenzen tracked everything so that when the Rangers showed interest, he was able to show them his work outs. His metrics. He was scheduled to throw simulated game session on the day he officially signed.

He knew if he wanted to shorten his time to the mound, the signing team would want everything he had done.

From what I've read, he could begin the season in the BP and ramp up as a RP. I'm guessing they'll tandem him with Bradford and flip them at some point.

Kirby (4.5) + Lorenzen (4.5) + Robertson (10) + Mahle (5.5) = 24.5 million in payroll for 2024

Monty = 25 mill in payroll for 2024

CY pretty much went for quantity and more pitching depth instead of the one quality big fish in Monty, given the payroll constraints. The value of Lorenzen's absolute bargain of a contract really helps me lean towards that direction as well, especially knowing that Degrom and Scherzer's returns should help bolster the top of the rotation by playoff time.
