I went with fangraphs WAR and went 50/50 for pitchers, came out to 110.7 total WAR. Wonder what tweaks would improve this team?
I stopped reading your list at Dyson...

Evan Grant writes "Five players who need to step up in Surprise" in todays DMN article.
  • Owen White
  • Jack Leiter
  • Yerry Rodriguez
  • Justin Foscue
  • Zeke Duran

  • White has a chance to be on the big league club in some capacity to break camp. He's the most "ready" pitcher we have right now. The issue for him is that he's got to strike guys out again and show that his stuff is back to where it was (K/9 6.7 last year and walk rate up to 11.8%).

Leiter has no chance to break camp with the big club, but he must show significant progress from his time off and last summer.

Yerry Rodriguez has big stuff but needs to find the zone more, while subsequently not piping fastballs. He's also out of options. Nut up or shut-up.

Foscue can stick it. He may not be a traditional slugger, but he puts the ball in play and gets on base a ton. DH is wide open and if he has a solid spring training, he and Wyatt Langford could split time at DH while Wyatt is playing the outfield. If he has a good spring and performs well enough as a DH, it could make Leody dispensable and a piece for a trade for a starting pitcher.

Duran is going to get almost all the reps at SS during spring training while Seager is on the mend. He's got to show that the second half of last season was more of an aberration than the norm, and needs to cut down and the pure swinging and missing. This team has plenty of boppers, just put the ball in play and go run. A good spring could also spark some potential for a trade for a starting pitcher.

Raymond, Murphy, Bacsik and Valle have to be some of the most un-interesting on-air personalities in baseball.

To put in perspective, Josh Lewin was the "excitement" to Tom Grieve's ordinary... and Tom Grieve would be the excitement out of the new group.

Sandler isn't bad but I feel like with baseball he's still kind of learning on the fly (the commentary aspect of it, not the game itself).

Sandler, Bacsik, and Murph are the only ones worth anything.. idk why they dropped CJ

I like Bacsik. He can get pretty animated on the radio, and he has a lot of knowledge of the game. Think he just needs more reps for the tv broadcast. Same with Sandler. They would make a pretty nice duo.

I think CJ dropped them; his family lives in Atlanta and he was done spending 120+ days in DFW or on the road and he got the Braves job. Such a half-assed broadcast crew. And Valle is so bad, just not a fit at all

I do other things while watching the rangers, so I don't really pay much attention to the announcers.

I do enjoy hearing Bacsik and Sandler talk ball on the radio, especially when they get pissed, that is entertaining!

We're the champs, we can go rogue if we want to. Get Derek Holland up there. He couldn't be any more of a loose cannon than Hawk Harrelson, who was (is) an absolute legend.

I had mlb.tv for a few years and worked at night then so it was worth having / paying for it and they let you watch the in market game an hour and a half after it was over which again was no problem for me.

They let you choose which announcers to listen to, home or away and 99% of the time I listened to the other teams broadcast. Dave Raymond is so awful.

    From Art Garcia of si.com.

Both expect Montgomery to sign with the Rangers this week. Feinsand wrote that Montgomery "seems destined for a reunion with the Rangers if the two sides can agree on a number."

Same, only listening to the radio instead of watching. Anybody know who's doing the radio broadcasts this year?

Sigh. Are we the only team who does this? A revolving door of five different announcers? I'd rather just hire two up and comers, not even necessarily former players, and have them call 162.

Excited baseball is right around the corner. Lots of disrespect out there for the world champs. The media continues to crap on this team….From top players lists to win projections, there's plenty of bulletin board material for Boch to hang in the locker room to fire these guys up.

I think it would be a little different if we were moving into this season with a healthy pitching staff, but as of opening day we'll have 3/5 would be starters hurt, and one who we probably wont be on the team because we won't resign him. Good news is we'll have them all back by the summer.

Rangers announcing has sucked ever since Nolan Ryan stuck his nose where it didn't belong.

Agree but that doesn't take away the disrespect to the individual players. I could be wrong, but I think the young guys like Bradford and White are going to take this opportunity and excel. It's their time and GDit we're due for some young pitchers to step up.

Bradford pitched well in spots and spurts last year, so I've got hopes get can be a good innings eating starter, but I'll be honest Owen White has me nervous. His stuff has been really fallen off from his breakout-ish 2022 season. He's got to show the ability to strike guys out at the big league level.

Worth noting, regarding GSs from 2023:

    29 Gray
    28 Heaney
    26 Dunning
    25 Eovaldi
    8 Bradford
    8 Scherzer
    6 deGrom
    1 Yerry

20 Perez (4.98 ERA as a Starter) <- Addition by subtraction
11 Monty (2.79 ERA as a Starter) <- Important loss

All-in-all, we'll return our 4 leading SPs (in terms of GS) from 2023.

    Perez is an easy replacement.

Correct. Heck, Harry Carays twin grandsons call games for the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Why not hire them rather than this hodge podge of bland guys we have currently.

The battle for DH is perhaps going to be the most interesting one this spring. We have at least four minor leaguers who have a legit chance to get time in that spot to start the season. I am looking at Foscue, Crim, Wendzel, and of course Langford (but if he's going to make the team he's going to start a bunch games as an OF, not DH). Then on top of that you have old veteran players like always.

Each of Foscue, Crim and Wendzel bring something different to the plate literally and figuratively.
