I'd personally prefer Montgomery. Any insight as to why we don't see to want him?
My guess is potential ceiling.

I think Snell has a much greater low than Montgomery though. If you look at his seasons out of 2018 & 2023, he's never pitched over 130 innings and hasn't had a WHIP less than 1.200. He's a much greater crapshoot on performance to me. I don't really want him.

As far as Montgomery - he was solid in NYY, but still didn't pitch a ton of innings. I think really good in 2022 and 2023. But, for me, his ceiling is high #2 only. I don't think he's worth the money either.

I personally am fine with getting neither of those guys, unless the money is right, and rolling with the rotation the Astros have until the trade deadline.

What does the organization ultimately want to do with Spencer? I just wonder if they see Spencer as some bullpen help to try to move Montero if there is a suitor, or if they do see him as a starter and will only pull him up in the dog days of summer.

They want to avoid using him in the bullpen if at all possible

I also know they're working the trade market to shed some salary. I wasn't told who that would involve specifically but you gotta think it would be Montero. No idea how they would make it work- but they're trying.
After looking at the numbers Farmer posted, Bregman is the only one that makes sense. But we would have needed to do it in the offseason.

Just doesn't seem like anyone otherwise that brings enough value to both sides to make a deal worthwhile (saving us more than 15M or being of value to another team).

Except that leaves a giant glaring hole. I'll gladly takes 1 year of Bregman over 1 year of Snell with how our roster is built. That deal needed to be done while Chapman was available.

Agreed. What I was trying to say is it was the only player that really made sense to try and move. So I just don't see anything of substance coming from that at this point.

I'd rather see us start to move some middling (dollar wise) pieces that aren't necessarily needed to quitely rebuild the system now than to move someone to clear up a couple million to rent Snell.

I just don't see who we can trade away to get anything or value at the deadline. Thats why I'd rather just sign a free agent

If they're trying to trade Montero, they aren't looking to get anything back. Just looking to free salary.

This would give them some more room to bring in an arm or two.

Interesting, I guess they could have brought back Stanek if that was the plan

Pitchers shouldn't be on that list.

I'm sure it will be 4 by the end of 2024! The Nationals Leader only has 12. Cue Joey hitting 18 HR, striking out 165 times and hitting .178 this year.

Our boy Maldonado has a shot to take the lead for Houston. He has 163 career HRs for us and a .181 BA here, but still at .207 for his career. If he can drop it 8 points, glory will be his.

Hes hit 58 HR as an Astro. Would still take the lead

58 HR and 163 RBI.

If he had hit 163 HR with us he would have been resigned and Diaz would have been traded for a haul.

I knew that felt high, but he has 111 career HRs. That's not terrible.

The oddest part of his stat line: SB 3

I do not like what I found.

This only has AAA stats for us.

We had 19 players with at least 50 PA tracked.

EXIT VELO
14th Loperfido - 87.5
18th Leon - 85.8

This is slightly better - HARD HIT%
7th Loperfido - 41.9%
11th Leon - 37.8%

It was a very small sample, but Wagner... not too shabby

91.8 EV, 50.0% HH%, .494 xwOBA

I think his "issue" is the launch angle. 4.2. 12/24 of his balls put in play were on the ground.

Singleton dominated.
91.5 EV
47.7 HH%
12.2 LA
13 barrels in 148 PA
.442 xwOBA
