I think Snell has a much greater low than Montgomery though. If you look at his seasons out of 2018 & 2023, he's never pitched over 130 innings and hasn't had a WHIP less than 1.200. He's a much greater crapshoot on performance to me. I don't really want him.
As far as Montgomery - he was solid in NYY, but still didn't pitch a ton of innings. I think really good in 2022 and 2023. But, for me, his ceiling is high #2 only. I don't think he's worth the money either.
I personally am fine with getting neither of those guys, unless the money is right, and rolling with the rotation the Astros have until the trade deadline.
