Curious for any of our insider guys... Is there interest to pursue starters beyond Snell, or is Crane only interested in him? I would think that with urquidy being out, we don't have a choice but to get someone else, just not sure where that comes from.

He's a free agent. He does have a QO, so we would lose a 2nd draft pick (already giving up 1 for Hader). Also, would likely push us over another luxury tax threshold, so we would lose $1m in international bonus pool money. Sounds like they are not close on numbers and latest thing was we aren't the front-runners anymore. Doesn't mean it can't happen, but probably unlikely unless Boras gets a visit from the ghosts of free agency past/present/future tonight and has an Ebenezer Scrooge level ephiphany and gives him away to us for cheap.

All is quiet on the Houston/Snell front. I heard earlier today that talks were picking back up. But, to corroborate what the real reporters are saying, Stros/Snell are far apart on $. Would take Jim upping the ante to get back in the hunt. We’ll see.

Boras is in a tough spot. He's got 2 SP he needs to find homes for and right now he seems to be pumping Snell more than Monty. I wonder if they are wondering if the other guy is getting top billing.

I think Monty is dead set on the long term deal. Snell seems to have moved on to highest AAV with an opt out for 24 with some extra guaranteed if he sucks or gets hurt.

I'm not an insider but just read Clevinger is looking for just a 1 year deal. If we are looking for an experienced back of the rotation guy instead of a big splash. He's losing his fastball but pitched pretty decent when not hurt last year.

I'm kind of assuming Monty knows Snell gets top billing coming off a Cy Young year. He probably is anxious for Snell to sign so teams that are holding out for Snell are ready to move on to him.

Thank you for the detailed response, the only other question I have is why is snell just now signing, if he was a free agent why didn't he sign back in December?

I couldn't remember Evan Gattis's name. I knew his position and what he looked like but the name just wasn't here for me.

My lack of knowledge of the 1960-70s Astros cost me seven. I also missed a pretty obvious former player from the current dynasty run that cost me another three.
