If this offseason taught us anything, if you're not a bonified superstar then you're not getting long, big-money deals. There is entirely too much blue in there to make me want to pay big for aging Bregman.
Snell is fresh off a cy and can't get a mega deal. Monty just peaked and maybe not sniff 9 figs. Chappy & Both got peanuts compared to projections.
Guys who get paid either high AAV, long-term deals, or big money for their age/position = Nola, Wheeler, Altuve, Hader, Unicorn, Yamamoto, Witt Jr. They all have something Bregman doesn't whether it be a high ceiling, long prime remaining, more highly thought of at their position.
Take away the Padres and Mets being stupid, we've seen a major decline in mega deals for guys who don't deserve it. Bregman is likely seen as a high-end middle-class player from ages 31-35.
