I guess the kids have to find something to do to entertain themselves when the mets are playing...

I predict he will to get his ~19 M this year with the buyout then sign another deal around 3/50. Then he'll sign short-term deals around 10-12 M per for a few more seasons and end up just short of the 150 M the As offered. If all goes well he'll have cost himself a lot of stress, moving around, and 20-30 M over his career. If he plays poorly this season, then he may end up costing himself 50-75 M in the long run.

All worth it not having to play the majority of your career in shltty Oakland.

Haha but you know he would have ended up somewhere cool (team not city) like Philly or Boston.

I will be so hype of these boys make the opening day roster. Why the hell not? Figure this **** out with them and get them contributing.

I would figure Arrighetti would be most likely of the two at this point.

I love watching young guys get a shot. Hopefully one of them gets a shot and takes full advantage.

I have a feeling he's only getting a shot if France and/or JV miss time.

MLB Pickle - the Rangers have way too many bat lefty / throw righty players. It took me 7 guesses, but 6 were Rangers L/R.

Would they use him in the bullpen? That was more my thought.

That may help the team the most this year but does that help him and the future Astros? I'm interested in see how we handle all this. If we feel comfortable about our chances on winning the division then maybe we take more chances on developing early on.

Soto for 14 years $540M...time to learn if the Stanton contract wasn't a big enough warning sign for the Yanks

If this offseason taught us anything, if you're not a bonified superstar then you're not getting long, big-money deals. There is entirely too much blue in there to make me want to pay big for aging Bregman.

Snell is fresh off a cy and can't get a mega deal. Monty just peaked and maybe not sniff 9 figs. Chappy & Both got peanuts compared to projections.

Guys who get paid either high AAV, long-term deals, or big money for their age/position = Nola, Wheeler, Altuve, Hader, Unicorn, Yamamoto, Witt Jr. They all have something Bregman doesn't whether it be a high ceiling, long prime remaining, more highly thought of at their position.

Take away the Padres and Mets being stupid, we've seen a major decline in mega deals for guys who don't deserve it. Bregman is likely seen as a high-end middle-class player from ages 31-35.

I think the Mets / Yankees may meet up to have a slap fight with their checkbooks next offseason to try and get Alex. Mets have a bunch of contracts coming off the books. I think Gleyber hits free agency after this year. They may be the only 2 teams willing to give him the money he wants.

I think 540 is too steep too, but its not too far off.

Soto Ranks (Since 2019)

5th fWAR
4th wRC+
1st BB/K
8th PA (he stays on the field)

He's an elite of the elite. 4 straight silver sluggers, and MVP finishes of 2ns, 5th, 6th, and 9th. He'll be 27 when he hits the market. in 29, 21, 22, & 23 he's averaged north of 5 WAR. If he continues that, he'll be a 40-50 M player a year during his prime. If we assume his prime ends at 32, he'll be worth 300 M by the time normal players decline. How much is Age 33-40 worth? 150? There is the ~450 the Nats offered.

That makes sense, but I think the Yankees go all in on Soto. They have ~100 M coming off their books, but Soto might take up 40% of that. I don't think they want to be north of 300 M again. With needs at 2nd, 3rd, OF, and maybe 1B - I bet they bargain bin shop some.

Where are my 2 Astros-loving Ags from this thread who are going to become best friends and drink beer together?

I need confirmation you can both go to the opener against the Yankees (3p on the 28th)

How many of these "compromised" pitchers are Boras clients?

I find it interesting that his sales pitch for a long-term, big dollar contract to one of his pitchers is effectively "pitchers get hurt a lot".

Alright, I've got 4 - and I can't go.

I was thinking 2015 and the other poster (handle escapes me) that in the past they often "disagreed" on a few thingsโ€ฆ, but if they can go and you can go we can make it a GameThread kickoff party.

LA06? 2015? Are yall in?

1906 is in - and he should pick a 4th from the thread. I think he wins for the most prolific posters here.
