Hunter Brown will piggyback Framber Valdez on Friday against the Nationals. Spencer Arrighetti will do the same on Saturday, when Cristian Javier starts against the Cardinals.

Justin Verlander felt good after his bullpen session yesterday, but Joe Espada said he’s not ready to face hitters yet. Espada still isn’t ruling him out for opening day, but he acknowledged “obviously we’re kind of running out of days here.”

Non-roster invitee Chris Gittens will need meniscus surgery on his right knee that will sideline him “for a while,” Joe Espada said. Gittens injured himself on the first swing he took in Grapefruit League play.

forgot about 2005 - NLCS Game 4 - Everett/Bruntlett legendary double play, that was a great game, and the first playoff game i ever went toThe Porkchop Express said:
My Astros game highlights
1980 - Nolan Ryan's first game as an Astro (and first home run!)
1988 - Mike Scott throws a 1-hitter, loses it with 2 out in the 9th to friggin' Ken Oberkfell
1994 - Astros 15, Cardinals 12 - Overcame an 11-0 deficit
1994 - Jeff Bagwell 3 HR game vs. the candy ass Dodgers, including 2 in one inning
1998 - Billy Spiers wins Game 2 of the NLDS with a walkoff single in extras
1999 - Last regular season game at the Astrodome
2005 - NLCS Game 4 - Everett/Bruntlett legendary double play
2007 - Craig Biggio's last home game, lots of water works that night!
Every home opener from 1986-1999
Non Astros Superlatives
1994 - Ags 34, sips 10 in Austin
1997 WCF - Eddie Johnson wins game 4 vs the Jazz with a 3 pointer at the buzzer
1997 WCSF -Rockets beat Sonics in Game 7
2001 5A state semifinals - Austin Westlake (Chad Schroeder) def. Houston Madison (Vince) 48-42. Schroder had an 80-yard TD run to clinch it.
2003 5A D2 state title game - Katy beats SLC 16-15 in the best pure game of football ever
2004 Texas state track meet - Cinco Ranch's Scott Sellers breaks the national high jump high school record by clearing 7 feet 5 inches. To this day the greatest athletic feat I've laid eyes on.
Hall of Shame answers
1987 - Sonics 136, Rockets 80 (worst loss in team history)
1995 - Colorado 29, Ags 21
1995 - Sips 16, Ags 6 (last game of the SWC)
1997 - WCF - Stockton hits a 3 pointer to end the Rockets' season
1998 - Game 1 NLDS, Jim Leyritz hits a walkoff in extra innings and Kevin Brown strikes out 73 batters in a row (I think)
2004 - Tennessee 38-7 over the Ags in the rainy Cotton Bowl
2005 - Cal over the Ags 45-10 in the Holiday Bowl, a game that convinced me that college sports are fixed
Joe Espada said the Astros are not ruling Justin Verlander out for Opening Day at this point. Verlander threw a bullpen yesterday is doing light throwing today, next bullpen session will determine if he’s ready to face hitters.

I am sure there are more awful games I've been to but have blocked from my memory.
That sounds more like he's not young anymore, we know what we have, it's a long season we expect to win, and we're in no hurry to throw him into live action.EastCoastAgNc said:Justin Verlander felt good after his bullpen session yesterday, but Joe Espada said he’s not ready to face hitters yet. Man that sucks for him
2019 and 2021 were awful for home WS games. Stayed away in 2022 and I guess that did the trick.EastCoastAgNc said:On behalf of Astros fans everywhere, please stop attending World Series gamesWES2006AG said:

Alex Cora stopped by the Astros facility this morning. Talking with Craig Biggio and Jay Bruce here, also caught up with Alex Cintrón, one of his very good friends. Red Sox are in West Palm to face the Nationals pic.twitter.com/pvvGzlAyyE

Remember Ken Giles?
— Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) February 28, 2024
He hasn't pitched in the big leagues in four years. But he just faced Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm in his first appearance as a Brave this spring ...
And struck out all three of them ...
On unhittable sliders.
Definitely a guy to watch.

Now infielder Dixon Machado is exiting the game after appearing to injure his knee while coming into third base on a hit. He wasn't able to continue running home, but walked off the field under his own power.

Dixon Machado has a right quad injury that the Astros will reevaluate tomorrow, Joe Espada said. Bennett Sousa got hit in the chest with that comebacker. He’s fine, Espada said.
