I think it makes sense. Nagging injuries, he's made insane money, won a title and likely wouldn't contribute as an everyday player for any contending team next year.

Brantley was a pro's pro. I think the clubhouse is going to miss him as much as we'll miss his on-field production. I think Tucker owes Mike a ton of credit for his development. His locker room speech in 2022 has been credited with getting the boys back focused and believing after getting mollywhopped by the Phillies.

Took me 2 guesses today and I always start with Altuve as well. As soon as I saw B/T, I knew who it was.
Funny enough, when I saw B/T, I thought the other CFer first. Wild the Astros have two CFers who are that same B/T combo.

Going to be interesting to see Miller's second year, but that 1-2-3 of Castillo, Gilbert, and Kirby is nasty.

Actually is wild their offense was so bad last year to keep them out of the postseason last year.

Guys just seem to step up. Remember when we couldn't stand to lose Correa's voice? Or how could we lose the club house glue guy in Springer? Between Altuve, Abreu, Verlander, & Pressly we still have some very high level vets who will keep the clubhouse in check. Bregman, Valdez, Tucker, Abreu, McCullers, Urquidy, & Alvarez are all entering year 5 or more with the club. The culture is built. Work hard. Don't get too high or low. Win a **** ton of games. I think it helps we don't really have any problem players on paper. Most these guys grew up in this system and culture. It's just what they know.

What's funny.. Uncle Mike wasn't much of a vocal leader. But when he spoke, everyone listened. One of those guys. Just extremely well respected.

But you're right- I've wondered this myself. Lots of veteran guys who are good examples for the youngsters but who will step up and speak up when needed? Hector Neris was probably right behind Maldy in terms of vocal leadership and they're both gone. It'll be interesting.
