Matt Carpenter heads to Atlanta pic.twitter.com/3PD1oXO6rr

As @DOBrienATL noted, the Braves plan to trade Matt Carpenter, just as they flipped Marco Gonzales and Max Stassi after acquiring them in separate trades earlier this offseason, sources tell @TheAthletic. Team took on $4M of Carpenter’s $5.5M salary to obtain LH reliever Ray Kerr…

With Framber’s value being high right now would you be comfortable trading him?

Interesting..
Hmmm…I'd certainly consider it. Framber is a big reason our season last year was frustrating and I'm not sure if he'll turn it around
He was also our best pitcher by far, an all star, threw a no hitter, had a 4+ WAR, & finished 9th in the Cy Young.
Top 40 pitchers heading into next year.

I already know I missed some people and this will look terrible by like May but whatever pic.twitter.com/HnY17yg7o1

Matt Carpenter is a lefty who can play first base and corner outfield. Gets on base. He's definitely past his prime at 37 but will likely be cheap. Worth a flyer?
ATL is just looking to flip him. They have done it a few times already. Target someone. Give up peanuts. Take on a bad deal. Move the bad deal away.bearkatag15 said:texasaggie2015 said:

He was traded to Atlanta yesterday. You think we'd want trade for him?
Congrats to Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker for being named to the All-@MLB 2nd-team for the 2023 season. pic.twitter.com/KlQo123Ppd

the Maldy at-bat in the 4th inning of game 1 with the bases loaded...was a killer
it was the key AB in the game for the 'stros

Off season topic on your personal Astros history (seen in person)
First game you went to: 1999 vs the Padres in the Dome (I was 6)
Most recent game you've been to: 2023 ALCS Game 7
Best game you've been to: 2022 ALCS Game 2, 2019 ALCS Game 2, or 2021 9th inning comeback vs Yankees (Altuve walk off)
Worst game you've been to: 2023 ALCS Game 7 or 2019 WS Game 7
Favorite game you've been to: 2021 ALCS Game 6 (clinch the pennant) or 2019 ALCS Game 2 (Correa walk off HR)
Favorite memory: Marwin grand slam vs Rangers in 2017, my brother and I making our first Astros road trip to St Louis in 2019, or Altuve caps off 9th inning comeback with walk off against the Yankees.
Bonus, favorite sports memory in person not involving the Astros. Acie Law hits "the shot", Michael Barash walk off vs the sips, and LSU 7 OT game.
Quote:
The Houston Astros don't plan to trade co-ace Framber Valdez, at least not this winter, but they are listening, with more than five teams already checking in on him.

.@JimBowdenGM on his report yesterday that the Red Sox and Giants had made $300+ MM offers to Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
— Tyler Milliken ⚾️ (@tylermilliken_) December 17, 2023
He said both are “legitimately in this thing.”
The length of the deal could end up between 12-14 years.

While he doesn’t have a qualifying offer attached, LHP Jordan Montgomery is a big name to watch for Boston.

Free-agent outfielder Lourdes Gurriel in agreement with Diamondbacks, pending physical, source tells @TheAthletic.
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) December 17, 2023
Gurriel’s deal is a three-year, $42 million deal with a possible opt-out after two years and a player option for 2027.

The Dbacks have made him a key fixture in their lineup for the next few years! https://t.co/p7Xd9yQEwc
Giants are an interesting comparison for our future. Thats a team that long resisted the monster deal in spite of being a big market club. They somehow won 107 games in 2022 with a bunch of aging stars who were nearing (or past) their primes and a bunch of prospects that were not well regarded stepping up (Yaz, Wade, Webb). Since then they have floundered in mediocrity and are now willing to throw 12 year deals out to free agents. I wonder what Crane will think of resisting a long term deal with Tucker when in 2026 we have a lineup of old Altuve, Yordan and a bunch of slappy Pena types.EastCoastAgNc said:.@JimBowdenGM on his report yesterday that the Red Sox and Giants had made $300+ MM offers to Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
