I ventured over to the Ranger thread when I saw Max had surgery and one of them made a good point.

They may not be willing to go over the CBT because if (or when depending on how you feel) Bregman becomes a FA he'll get a QO and if we're over the CBT then the return draft pick goes to a 4th rounder instead of a 2nd rounder if they're under.

That accurate? If so probably explains why Crane wants to stay put especially if building the farm backup is a priority.

You're right, the offseason is boring and anti-climactic. It also kinda feels like they aren't doing anything to address the glaring issue from last year, especially in the postseason (at home at least)...the offense. That's my point of frustration.

I doubt Crane gives too much thought about the draft pick difference of 30-60 spots. Thats the nerds and GM. Crane has said and shown he's willing to go over for the eighth piece. We probably are over at the moment.

The Rangers aren't staying under for QO purposes. Scherzer & Eovaldi aren't eligible. Scherzer might not even be worthy of it based on age, injury, and performance. Heaney & Leclerc would likely take the deal.

What's the difference in pool money between the 2 rounds?

It is factually correct. I suspect that it is a factor, but certainly not the only one. This is really multiplied by two because Altuve would also get a QO if not extended. We will then be in the same boat next year with Framber and Tucker. It isn't just picking earlier, it also impacts the bonus pool you have available. The supplemental second last year was $1.1-1.2M while the 4th was a little under $500k.

I've resigned myself to accepting no big move. Between money and existing roster, it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Probably another reclamation project or very cheap LH bat, if there's even room for one on the roster.

The end of the current RSN model is at hand. Expect all 3 leagues to take back more games from the RSN bucket and use to add additional national deals (NBA will first in be doing this after the current national deals are out in '25).

Lots of interested parties are exploring a new model. Wouldn't be surprised if the trend of NBA and NHL teams working with over the air broadcasters (suns, jazz, Vegas knights, etc) starts to take hold with MLB teams that take their rights back. Bally regions will likely be walking away from a significant number of their rights deals.

Good news is if the model relies on 80% ad sales revenue and 20% cable/sat affiliate fees (the diametric reverse of the current RSN model) the regional games should be available on a low cost/no cost basis. We're going back to the future

I’ve heard that the @astros nearly traded Framber to the @dodgers for significant young controllable talent. (Not sure how close they were, but apparently there were discussions.)
With Framber’s value being high right now would you be comfortable trading him?
