What a terrible GM they have
Remind me, if they're selected don't we have an opportunity to add them? Or is it just that if they dont stick on a roster they have to be offered back to us before they can be sent to the minorsFarmer1906 said:

No way a GM should ever say this..... but we all know he's not wrong

I think at this point he is just trying to get fired

Pretty sure if someone gets picked they have to stay on the big league roster all year. Our own Ryan Pressly is probably the best Rule 5 pick of all time.

Especially if Pena doesn't pull his head out of his behind. There's no reason to have the utility gold glover on the roster otherwise.Mathguy64 said:
If Dubon is getting 500 + PAs again this season either we are being run by Dusty 2.0 or there are major injuries again.
2023 Stats
Dubon
.278 BA
.309 OBP
.411 SLG
.311 wOBA
.302 xwOBA
97 wRC+
Pena
.263 BA
.324 OBP
.381 SLG
.310 wOBA
.302 xwOBA
96 wRC+
They were the same guy offensively. Pena is clearly better defensively at SS. Who do you think will be better moving forward? The 26-year-old who has shown flashes of brilliance over (see 2022 postseason) or the 29-year-old who has a career WAR of 3.3 after 5 seasons?
Edit:
Here is how I see Dubon's role:
- spot starts when Pena, Altuve, or Bregman need a day off (shares this role with Kessinger)
- plays CF/LF vs LHP when Yordan isn't in the OF (shares this role with Meyers)
- PH vs LHP
- Defensive Sub late (share role with Myers)
The goal should be ~225 PA with the majority of them being vs LHP.

To be fair, the Warriors technically moved over to San Fran and are no longer in Oakland eitherCFTXAG10 said:
No-brainer. All thats missing now is an NBA team. If the Warriors hadn't had their run they might have been following the Raiders and A's too
Damn that is steep. But somebody will do it. Just hope it ain't us.Farmer1906 said:Wabs said:Whoa, whoa, whoa.....$100M? For how many years??Farmer1906 said:

People are speculating he'll get something similar to Diaz's 5/100.

This interesting.FWIW whitcomb barely missed mason mcrae’s top 100 list that was published in september, a list that featured dezenzo at 34, matthews at 55 & melton at 93.

mcrae’s one of the very best prospect evaluators in the online industry, which is probably why the red sox just hired him. https://t.co/PUf9LZHkm3

With our payroll, I don't think you have to worry. We're going to have to do things cheaply this offseason. It's not like we can unload Altuve, Bregman, Abreu, McCullers, or JV (top 5 is $$ this seasons).

It would be selling low and I doubt many teams would take on 51 M without knowing how Lance is going to bounce back. I would say that isn't a feasible direction.Marvin said:Farmer1906 said:Wabs said:Damn that is steep. But somebody will do it. Hadn't thought of this... you think anyone would take McCullers just as a salary dump? It would be a big risk since he could always come back and dominate, and maybe a stupid thought, but it's not like he has been of much value since throwing 30 straight curveballs to beat the Dodgers back in '17.
Just a thought exercise... don't dogpile! Haha.
Keep in mind most of those guys aren't eligibile for the Rule 5 Draft. Per Climbing Tals Hill, here who is.Marvin said:Farmer1906 said:

So, going back to this... the Astros only added Corona (#11 prospect in the Astros system according to MLB). Somewhat surprised that Hensley, Kessinger, Souza, Kuhnel, and Ortega were all protected over at least one of Arrighetti, Loperfido, Whitcomb, and Dezenzo. We'll see.
Maybe the league will assume the Astros have nothing of value since the system rankings always say they suck.
Quote:
Astros prospects eligible for the Rule 5 draft
Colin Barber (No. 8)
Kenedy Corona (No. 11)
Justin Dirden (No. 14)
Miguel Palma (No. 17)
Zach Daniels (No. 19)
Shay Whitcomb (No. 25)
Jaime Melendez (No. 27)
Misael Tamarez (No. 30)
