So what is the term we're going to use when Espada makes a bad call that we perceive costs us the game?

Espa-dud?
Empanadaed?
Joe Blows?

Just keeping the stove warm.

Nada Espada
Haha. I'll just try to remember Joe's the one who told Mancini to play closer to the line in Game 5 which got Schwarber out, winning them the game and eventually the title.

If Dubon is getting 500 + PAs again this season either we are being run by Dusty 2.0 or there are major injuries again.
I think you're being naive if you don't' think he doesn't get 2/3 of a season worth of starts between left, center, short stop, and second base to spell guys days off. Especially if Pena doesn't pull his head out of his behind. There's no reason to have the utility gold glover on the roster otherwise.

500 PA isnt 2/3 of a season. It would be around 75- 80% of a starter who played every game.

Tucker was at 674 PA; thats 74%
Pena was at 634 PA, thats 79%

If he plays 3/5 games spelling people thats a lot but I think about right. I dont want him playing 4 games out of 5

I had seen something that people were aware he was sick and that was a major driver of the spending. He just wanted to bring the city (and him) a championship. Bummer it went so south for his final season.

This kind of comment confuses me.

2023 Stats

Dubon
.278 BA
.309 OBP
.411 SLG
.311 wOBA
.302 xwOBA
97 wRC+

Pena
.263 BA
.324 OBP
.381 SLG
.310 wOBA
.302 xwOBA
96 wRC+

They were the same guy offensively. Pena is clearly better defensively at SS. Who do you think will be better moving forward? The 26-year-old who has shown flashes of brilliance over (see 2022 postseason) or the 29-year-old who has a career WAR of 3.3 after 5 seasons?

Edit:

Here is how I see Dubon's role:
  • spot starts when Pena, Altuve, or Bregman need a day off (shares this role with Kessinger)
  • plays CF/LF vs LHP when Yordan isn't in the OF (shares this role with Meyers)
  • PH vs LHP
  • Defensive Sub late (share role with Myers)

The goal should be ~225 PA with the majority of them being vs LHP.

Saw that and checked. He's been a bum the last few years after showing something in 20-21 with the Mets.

I guess I always just assume if someone was DFA'd, they are 90% done and usually not work a look. Especially if they get DFA'd from a bad team.

No-brainer. All thats missing now is an NBA team. If the Warriors hadn't had their run they might have been following the Raiders and A's too

He was a first rounder, and he's relatively young. He's a LH bat that can play LF and 1B. He would be a scrap heap type pickup.

Seattle and LV (LeBron ownership group) seems to be where the NBA is headed when they inevitably add two expansion teams to get to 32

The NBA needs to move the Sacramento Kings to Las Vegas.

Also, leaving Oakland will help the A's organization so much. That will only make the AL West that much harder in the future.

Bligh Madris is going to the Tigers. Good riddance!

Quote:

From MLB Trade Rumors:

Tigers, Bligh Madris Agree To Minor League Deal
By Steve Adams | November 14, 2023 at 3:39pm CDT
The Tigers and first baseman/outfielder Bligh Madris have agreed to a minor league pact, reports Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. His contract includes an invitation to major league spring training.
The 27-year-old Madris was briefly in the Tigers organization last offseason after they claimed him off waivers from the Pirates. Detroit wound up designating Madris for assignment themselves, however, and ultimately traded him to the Astros in exchange for cash.
Madris spent the entire season in the Houston organization, appearing in a dozen big league games plus another 100 contests at the Triple-A level. He hit just .154/.267/.192 in a tiny sample of 30 MLB plate appearances in addition to posting a .235/.349/.413 slash in 456 trips to the plate with Triple-A Sugar Land. In all, he's appeared in 51 MLB games between Houston and Pittsburgh but has struggled to replicate otherwise solid production from the upper minors.
The lefty-swinging Madris has consistently put up solid numbers against right-handed pitching, turning in respective OPS marks of .811, .837 and .836 from 2021-23 when holding the platoon advantage. Overall, he's a .266/.355/.448 hitter in parts of three Triple-A campaigns. The Tigers' outfield currently consists of Mark Canha, Parker Meadows, Riley Greene and Akil Baddoo, with utilityman Zach McKinstry also in the mix for corner time. Madris will give the Tigers another lefty bat to compete for playing time in the outfield and potentially at first base, where former No. 1 overall pick Spencer Torkelson is entrenched after a 31-homer season and breakout second half in 2023.

It was not ... Last year when they were making all the signings, a friend with connections inside the organization said it was well known within the organization that he did not have long to live and basically gave the directive to win at all costs. Obviously, a rough last year watching his team knowing he probably wouldn't make it to the next season.

Was also a rough season with their RSN going down costing the team $50M during the season. Padres are not in a good spot right now.

Bring on Glasnow if we can get him for pennies on the dollar.
