FWIW I actually have a connection there and he told me they were all in on him like 3 months ago.

Would be the best case scenario for Houston.

Ohtani could be a national hero and pay off our national debt by the contract he is gonna get

Am I the only one surprised that more teams aren't concerned about a second UCL surgery for Ohtani? That's a lot of cash for your 2024 DH and hopeful long term ace/DH.

Dana's obsession with scouts and scouting experience is getting old.

Earlier I posted "wonder what Click thinks?" Now I really wonder what Lunhow thinks.

I'm all for taking the time to get the right hire, but I expected a quicker pace with the manager search. It's not like Dusty surprised everyone by retiring. Brown knew he wouldn't be back anyway, so why the emerging candidates? I expected a short list already vetted, formal interviews, and then a decision.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I bet Bagwell could make out a better lineup than Dusty.

Just because something doesn't happen on your preferred timeline doesn't mean it's slow or that we're screwing up.

Crane and his hires are the reason for our success. He's not batting 1.000, but he's also not afraid to make a change if the hire doesn't work out.

Managing this club is not a hard job. We don't have a bunch of egos to please, and Dusty, though he won a lot, set the bar pretty low. Insert Diaz and Chas and the new manager will have already won over the fan base.

He's played 200 games total over 4 years for LAA. His max is 58 in 2021.

His best was 52 in the covid season. Take that out and in 3 full season he's played in 148 of 496 possible games. All while managing OPS+ of 94, 100 and 88.

So he's making $38MM a year, playing less than 1/3 of the actual games and when he plays he's below league average.

You can argue he is the reason why they can't resign Ohtani.

Someone should remake "You're the reason God made Oklahoma" as "You're the reason we can't sign Ohtani."

Jury is still out on Brown. I need to see another full season and see how he navigates the offseason/trade deadline.

Committing to Diaz for 2024 was a nice start.

Tough crowd

Brown hasn't even been working for a full calendar year.

And last time I checked this historical run started and has continued under Crane as an owner.

Just making sure I didn't miss something lol

I haven't had Ray Montgomery mentioned to me and I would be pretty surprised if he got the job. I'm sure whoever reported that was aware of the Dana Brown/Jeff Bagwell connections with him and asked Dana's opinion. Of course he said good things. And that's why he reported that he's a candidate to watch.

I still think it'll ultimately be Joe Espada. Just my hunch.

That's why I said a "little" confidence. Yes, obviously we need to see what happens over the next few months. We seem to be hem-hawing over this manager thing. Maybe he's just doing his due diligence. Maybe he wants Espada and Crane is the hold up? I don't know. Dana did also say outfield was not a priority. Is this just GM speak? I personally think outfield should be our highest priority (maybe tied with bullpen).

Anyway.....lots of time left this offseason. Let's see how it goes.

I'm talking to a buddy of mine about free agent/trade targets and we keep going back to the fact that the most important thing is for Framber and Javier to bounce back. We lost the ALCS in seven games. We're right there.

I'm not saying we need to stand pat and I don't think we will. But I also don't think we need to make a big splash. A couple pieces here and there, Framber and Javier getting right, better luck with key injuries early on, and figuring out how to win a home game. Those things would make a huge difference.

He also said starting pitching wasn't a priority at the deadline and we landed Justin Verlander a couple days later. Always take what these guys say to the media with a grain of salt.

Lose confidence? Not really. I really believe his player eval and draft is going to help us in a big way.

What I'm not yet sold on is his influence on Crane and overall vision for the team. I would have liked to for him to get his way over Dusty a little more. I would have liked for him to be more involved in the decision / negotiation on the JV trade. I would like him to have more power in the manager move. If you come out publicly for someone, the guy should be hired in the next few days (still could happen).

Click seemed maybe a little soft on the surface. Super nice. Lots of "coach/GM talk" without giving out info. Then behind the scenes he at least had the balls to tell Crane no. Now Crane/Dusty chopped his balls off but at least Click in the end told them to shove their 1 year extension up their ass.

It's way too early to know too much. Brown deserves a full offseason at a minimum. If he can make some savvy bullpen moves and at least try to address left field then he'll have done his job IMO.

It probably wasn't a priority until it became clear that the Mets may be willing to deal JV. I believe that's where Crane stepped in and said go get him.

Don't count on any major signings, likely pickups from the scrap heap.

We can't stand pat but as everyone's roster stands now, we're second to only the Braves in 2024 WAR projections. The champs are sitting 9th.

Make the smart move (like how Click addressed bullpen at the deadline in 21), not the flashy one.

I think the "flashy" move is to extend Altuve and maybe Bregman.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Of course it's GM speak

I wouldn't want him going out there announcing to everyone what we're prioritizing and what we think we need the most.

Anyone with eyes knows what we need. We lost 3 bullpen pieces and our left fielder. We're pretty much locked in everywhere else.

Our left fielder is a monster sized 6'6" Cuban who hits from the left side and can turn regular line drives into no doubt HR

K then we could use a DH and a part-time left fielder because the giant Cuban has played 40, 56, and 39 games in LF in '23, '22, and '21.
