This is a tough one. It really is. And would depend heavily on the market for 3rd basemen… etc.

But you're right, this year's playoffs will be remembered about as much as 2015 or 2007, and that line painfully doesn't land coming from a franchise that made its third WS in 60-something years and won its first.

I will play. I'd do that first number average of 6 and $110-115. Not going to 7 years and that's based on the assumption Tucker has basically told you to eff off since I don't see how we could extend both.

I'd say that was a different scenario. Ohtani was a near can't miss AND he only cost $20M because that was the max posting fee. It's different when you have to guesstimate their actual market value because you need a lot of scouting due diligence. Truly incredible the Angels managed to suck so much with that gift.

I wouldn't go 6 years - period - unless there is a MAJOR discount.

I honestly don't think home town extentions past original FA need more then 3-5 years at a time.

I have concerns about how his body will hold up long term that would keep me from going 6+ for him.

I'd offer Alex 5 years/120MM as a start. Then negotiate from there as my starting point.

Wouldn't go above 6 years or more than 30M for AAV.
