The Rangers got a real piece with Evan Carter. His performance in the postseason helped spark them.

That being said -- I'm with all you guys about regression after career years. That's not to say the Rangers aren't still a 90-95 win team. It all hinges on what they can get out of their pitching.

I think they work to shore up their bullpen. Leclerc bounced back after the Altuve HR. Good for him. I thought it may break him like Altuve broke Chapman, or when Pujols broke Lidge.

For the Astros, let's go get Lourdes, an innings-eating SP, and bullpen help. We all didn't like having Odo, but he was valuable in eating innings during the regular season. Rat Fiers did the same in '17. You can never have too much SP. We need 8-9 reliable starters total -- we 3, maybe 4. The rest are question marks. JV, Framber, Javier, Urquidy? Brown? France? LMJ? Luis? Blanco? Bielak?
Hate to tell you but we aren't spending on an SP....

Verlander
Framber
Javier
Urquidy
Garcia
McCullers
Brown
France

Your starting 5/6 + depth comes from there and more spot start depth in Blanco. Only position we will spend at is possibly bullpen, but more likely on a position player and a backup veteran catcher. And what world are you living in where you NEED 8-9 reliable?
Agreed. We're going to have to figure out where to put proven starting pitchers as it is. I don't see adding new unless its a trade.

After letting our loss to the Rangers get further away, I think we are definitely setup for major success next year with the right manager.

IF LMC and Louace come back and pitch to how we know they can pitch, we have a solid starting rotation of JV, Javi, Framber, LMC, Garcia. Throw in Urquidy, HB, and JP for long relief our BP only really needs one or two pieces to replace Neris (Hope we keep him), maybe Montero if he regresses.

If Pena can figure out his swing issues, and Yainer keeps doing what he did this year with more plate appearances, our Lineup looks SCARY

Altuve
Bregman
Yordan
Tucker
Abreu
Chas
Yainer
Pena
(Lefty DH /LF)
I agree, this was by far our worst year since 2017, not counting the covid abomination, and still ended up so close to the WS. It will be fun to see what a new manager can do.

It's still hard getting over game 2 of the ALCS. Fourth inning, bases loaded, no outs, and couldn't score. That was the season right there.

Let the Rangers have their fun for now -

In 9 months they'll be 10+ games back and selling before the trade deadline, and we'll still be a contender for an 8th straight deep run.

What is realistic expectation of McCullers and Garcia

Should we be hoping for bullpen next year, or do they have a chance of contributing as a starter

That is a pretty good bullpen if they are ready to go at all star break

I'm 400 posts behind. What did I miss? Also it's a beating here in Arlington today. All the school districts are announcing they're closed tomorrow. I'm guessing we did the same last year? But not sure.

Work group text all asking to be off tomorrow. I told them: " damn if y'all are cancelling school for a team you haven't cared about in 8 years, I can only imagine what y'all would do if the cowboys won the Super Bowl."

The school I work at still had class in 2017 on the day of the parade but it was a very lightly attended day of school.

I can take the rangers winning the World Series, mainly because I know very few ranger fans, but I would rather eat glass than see the cowboys win another SB. I know WAY too many displaced Houston born cowboy fans

First post back from your ban- which caused you to miss the celebration- and you "accidentally" posted on the Astros thread?

Folks, we have found the biggest loser of the 2023 season.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Well, 6 out of the last 7 years, we either won the whole thing or were knocked out by the team that did. Hell of a run, and I can't wait to see what the new manager does with our crew next year to get back to the top.

Not sure why you feel the need to get personal. And I'm not going to post who my source is. But having fun and giving bits of info from what I hear just isn't worth it anymore. This isn't the first time I've been attacked for no reason. I know it's the minority of posters- but it's just not worth it.

I'm as upset as anyone that Diaz didn't get regular PT all season long.

Saying that, even I didn't think that Diaz should have been playing in the playoffs. At that point in time, the bed was made and you can't just change Diaz to be the one catching these starters when he didn't do that all season long. Not to mention he had so few ABs during September that expectations for October had to be understandably low. Dusty set it up so the only reasonable choice was to play Maldy.

It doesn't seem like a stretch to say that the FO had the same thought process.

I have not gotten personal at all. I have no problem with you as a poster, or the info you provide. You may indeed be an insider, I hope you aren't falsifying that, but sources can be wrong.

As with any anonymous source online, be skeptical. I am just pointing out the obvious, nothing more. There's no reason to be upset.

And you're still going at it claiming I'm wrong lol

I'm going to say it one last time and I'll drop it. Out of everything I've said here, I'm most confident about this. The FO 1000% had significant input. It doesn't mean they're going to do what a message board wants them to do. It doesn't mean their moves will always make sense.

Sometimes they may have to compromise. Sometimes they might know things we don't. Sometimes they may defer to the pitching staff because they don't want to hurt the chemistry.

I don't know. But I do know they had significant input and they'll continue to have significant input not only in the postseason but I believe we'll see it more in the regular season as well.

Dusty Baker was a good hire to get us out of the dark place we were in at the time. He never meshed well with the FO and the way they make their decisions. They butt heads often. Brighter days are ahead.

I'm not ever going to reveal who my source is. I hope you don't actually expect me to do that. I will say I worked a long time in a really cool industry that allowed me to make a lot of connections across sports- some of which are the ones I get my Astros info from still to this day.

This is probably arguing semantics but it seems the FO may have had significant input but it unfortunately went ignored this year.

Dusty got the WS ring in 2022, and some of his decisions that year ended up being right (Yuli).

So this year he may have gotten cocky and completely disregarded FO push to play Diaz more. And it didn't work out for us.

A front office having input into postseason lineups is probably quite common. That doesn't mean they write out the lineup cards. I feel any self-respecting manager would quit on the spot if the front office took away that responsibility.

In listening to Dana, it's clear he and Dusty didn't see eye to eye, both in the regular season and the playoffs, and because of that, only one of them is still here. Dana obviously gave his input, but Dusty still did what Dusty wanted and Dusty is now gone.

I don't get the sense that Dana wants control of the lineups. But I do think he wants a manager with similar views who is open to front office input, which is generally going to be analytics-based input.

Lineup input and control over the lineup are two different things, and the front office was never going to have control over the lineup.

Schools where? Arlington?

Sorry. I cant resist the dig at Arlington versus Dallas where the fanboys live. Or Frisco or Grapevine.

The rift between Dusty and the FO always seemed much more about Chas/OF playing time than it was about Maldy/Diaz. Given how seemingly logically OF playing time was handled in the playoffs, I think the FO definitely had some input.

Chas started 6/11 games in CF in the playoffs. I don't think that happens without FO say.

The elephant in the room is that the FO might have been fine with Maldy starting each game behind the plate.

I mean at this point it is what it is. I understand this board has an obsession with criticizing Dusty, but he's gone. We'll have to fill that void with something else.

Maybe he starts Diaz everyday and he burns out. Maybe he stays on a tear and we do beat the Rangers. Acting like that decision 100% is the reason we lost the ALCS is kind of silly. Way too many factors, mainly just being who has the hot hand and when.

Right. It's kind of a miracle we made it as far as we did with Framber going 0-3 with a 9 ERA.

But even with Tucker's slump, we still get through if Framber out-duels Eovaldi in either g2 or g6. Offensive guys come and go in the playoffs. Framber has been our rock in October. He was just gassed this year.
