Y'all have a lot of very early, very big dreams for this off season. I'm not even trying to be pessimistic but y'all need to cool it or you're going to have a coronary when none of these big moves happen.

This team has existing SP depth, unless some is traded away we aren't signing a veteran.

This team has the most depth in the system at OF, this isn't disappearing and we aren't signing a corner OF for 10+ million or more and especially not two

This team brought up Salazar and gave him innings early over Diaz, they aren't spending money on a veteran catcher.

HB was in the rotation all year this year, with luAce out early and the question mark for McC he isn't going to now be moved to the pen.

This team doesn't build by signing a bunch of free agents what on Earth would make y'all think they would do that this year and in positions we have pieces to fill in.
I agree with a lot of what you're saying but I think we need to add a SP (ya'll know how I am about pitching, we can never have enough), maybe a BP innings eater, and if Pena can't figure his hitting out we may need a SS, or just plug Dubon in there.

We have
Verlander
Framber
CJ
Brown
Urquidy
France
Blanco
And something in McC
Half year or Garcia

Add to that the three young guns in the minors 15 mentioned. Unless we deal some pieces that's poor money spent

Verlander - Aging while I hope he's still lights out he could drop off.
Framber- head case who seemingly fell off after the ASB. Again I hope he returns to 2022 form
CJ - beside game 7 was solid all year
Brown - up and coming stud
Urquidy - could become a decent starter but out of the BP is where he is best it seems
France - I have high hopes he becomes a 2/3 starter. For a lot of the season he had the best ERA on the team
Blanco - relatively unknown for a full season

I know it looks like w shave plenty of talent but this year showed just how elite our pitching was in 2022. That's what wins championships and is like to see us upgrade where we can

None of those complaints matter…we already have those guys and we aren't going to just cut them and sign someone else. That is my point that unless you deal pieces to get someone more stable you don't sign more SP. Especially if you want to stick with the team MO and promote from within as well.

Looks pretty accurate to me. I can't believe how many times I heard on the National Radio/TV shows how Dusty Baker was a current top 2 manager in the game. Drives me nuts to hear people just spouting that off because he is likable. I'd love to sit and have a beer with the dude and listen to all of his stories, but I'll be damned if that translates into being a good manager.

F and D for Dusty. Dubon over Chas was dumb. Maldy over Diaz was criminally dumb. And they rightly pointed out that Neris and Abreu were horribly overused. You just cant let the same hitters see a reliever 4 and 5 times out of 7 games.

Nothing wee didnt already know.

Honestly, at 28/year I wonder if he's worth it, and I'm not one to want to just let people walk

I thought Bregman was regressing just off the eye test but a quick look at his overall season and he' still top 5 ops by position

Don't think we can afford to lose that if we want to keep pace with the production the Rags IF is getting

That's because this thread believes every Astros player should be the best thing in the league and never have a slump or they're trash that needs to be replaced.

one thing different after Bregman's pending free agency compared to Springer's and Correa's...

by the end of his contract, the Astros will have paid Bregman about $100 MM

Springer had been paid about $50 MM prior to hitting free agency. Correa about $27 MM.

so there should not be any hard feelings about holding-back or low-balling, etc.., during the negotiations

Correct, so adding another 100 on top of that and allowing him to have never had to worry about a next contract or moving his family etc etc

With the depth in the rotation, particularly if they add a "veteran innings eater," I love the idea of Urquidy being the true long reliever we haven't had much of. Could be one of the best out there in that role.

Sure another 100 M is great. But why take 100 M when you can get 175-225 M?

With no WBC and a stricter limit on his innings, hopefully Javier has a bounce back year next year. I don't think we should push him past 140 innings to keep him fresh for the post season.

I hope we can do a 6 man rotation next year:

JV
Framber
Javier
McCullers
France
Brown

If we end up getting a starting pitcher, then move France or Brown to the bullpen.
This makes the best sense to me. Will help with rehabbing guys and JV as well. He isn't getting any younger.

If there is more than 1 baseball god then you may be upsetting some but making others happy.

As long as he's talking trash about what's already happened and not about hoisting the WS trophy or anything I'm cool with it.

Winning earns you the privilege of taking smack to whoever you beat. Don't like it...Don't lose.

Of all the people to talk, Gallen should shut his trap. Dude was ass and lost both of his starts. Really shows how focused he is on the biggest start of his career on Friday, too. What an idiot.

If you're JV and you want to get to 300 wins are you pro 6-man rotation or against?

And another question, if we're talking about re-upping Altuve (and I absolutely think we should) we don't think this next contract will see him get to 3000 hits, right?

He's at 2047 currently, I assume this includes the post-season, so he averages 157.5 hits per season.

If it's a five-year deal and he stays at his average, he doesn't make it. Six years and he does but he'll be almost 40.

At ~150 hits a year, that would be 6 more, so 5 year extension...stay healthy, Tuve... Not sure what's realistic, but I wanna see him get to 3k in H-Town

Was that the lineup we scored 12 runs in 6 innings before we stopped trying? I'll never understand Dusty to this day that we had a lineup that absolutely raked like a motherf***er and he was like, "oh no, can't do that again."

He was just going keep sticking Maldy in the 9 hole and then try to rearrange 1-8 to try to capture some kind of magic. Just f***ing baffling.

He'll be 41 in February and is 43 wins away. That's 3 healthy seasons of 15 wins to get there. Not sure he's got that in the tank or that mrs. V wants him playing that long.

Yeah, have that time back and he's probably better than 50/50 to make it to 3k. Needs a little luck on his side now.

No. I think it's unlikely he gets to 3000. There is no reason to commit to that many years. You likely go year by year at the end.

I lean no to this one unless he becomes a 5th inning specialist where the starter goes 4, he pitches the 5th, and only when the team is winning.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
6 man rotation would be great but to assume that McCullers plays any part in that is just dreaming. He has notched 210 innings over 3 years. That is just abysmal. Hopefully you have him back for Sept. Even then by that part of the year you are hoping to be setting up your playoff rotation.

JV
Framber
Javier
Brown

Those are your top 4. Maybe France has some continued success and then you pray for Garcia and McCullers to be ready the back half of the year.

Biggio averaged 153 hits/season and played till he was 41...it may not be likely but it's certainly not impossible.

It would be awesome to have two Astros in the 3k hit club.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Covid and a couple of unlucky injuries most likely will prohibit Jose from getting to 3000. 2700-2800 is likely the area he falls into.
