It was always Espada.
The delay and "search" just helps it look like a more valid decision to pick the internal guy.

Joe Espada is one of the best guys in the game and has been a manager-in-waiting for some time. Great to see him finally get the opportunity.

He was the reason we won game 5 by immediately pinch hitting Diaz...too bad MLB didn't suspend Dusty the rest of the playoffs.Farmer1906 said:Joe Espada is one of the best guys in the game and has been a manager-in-waiting for some time. Great to see him finally get the opportunity.

Astros third base coach Gary Pettis won't be returning to the team for the 2024 season, per sources.

The Astros will have to find new coaches to fill the bench coach and 3B coach position.

Which Astros prospects will be added to 40-man ahead of Tuesday's 5 p.m. CT?

Eligible players who are not added to the roster by then can be selected by another organization in the Rule 5 Draft, which is Dec. 6 in Nashville.

So who do we like for the new bench coach?

What a day!
I like the direction of all my Houston and Aggie teams.
Texans found their franchise QB
Rockets trending the right direction, as Green has grown up
Astros shed Dusty and shoot for 8 straight LCS
Aggies drop Fisher and look like they have a plan not to accept mediocracy
Aggie basketball and baseball also look very promising this year
I'm not saying it's all going to work out perfectly, but I really like the direction they are all trying to go
Maybe not for the Bench Coach but wouldn't be upset if he was in line as Gary Pettis' replacement.iBrad said:

I don't know what it means. I'll be honest. I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.Bregxit said:All I do is Nguyen said:
EMPANADAS OUT FOR ESPADA!!!
Espada means sword. Swords up!
Quote:
The Astros, who haven't confirmed the Espada promotion, called a press conference for 11 a.m. CT on Monday with general manager Dana Brown.
…
The lack of names tied to the Astros' job opening indicates Espada was probably the team's first choice all along.
The hiring of Espada will be viewed in a positive light in the clubhouse, where he is popular with the staff and players and a strong communicator. He's interviewed for several managerial positions in the last few years, including with the Marlins, Giants and White Sox.
…
Espada's managerial prowess was on display in Game 5 of the ALCS against the Rangers last month. After Baker had been ejected in the eighth inning, the Astros rallied to win it in the ninth when Espada sent pinch-hitters Diaz and Jon Singleton to the plate -- moves the team likely wouldn't have made with Baker. Diaz singled and Singleton walked, setting up Jose Altuve to hit a game-winning homer.
