Yea. I'm guessing Crane is putting feelers out there in alot of different agent circles and is giving qualified candidates an opportunity to express interest in the job. I don't blame Washington for putting his hat in the ring and, honestly, wouldn't be that surprised if Crane gives him an interview. Good optics for the organization.
But I don't see any chance that he's the guy.
Crane has an extremely impressive track record with hires IMO. Some "media hype" has built around some pretty bad candidates for our manager/GM job over the years, but Crane has a way of quietly acknowledging while side-stepping them. Then, ultimately getting his guy.
When we needed an architect, we got Luhnow. When we needed to rebuild the pitching staff after 2019, he got Click from Tampa. When we needed a respected baseball man/leader to manage after sign-stealing, he got Dusty. When we needed to revamp the farm and get guys signed to extensions, he got Brown from Atlanta.
Now it's pretty clear that we need a manager to bring us back to rational/optimal deployment of talent and better incorporation of analytics into our everyday decisions. I'm sure whoever we hire will be keen on that.
