Maybe it's just me but 95% of the Fax tweets don't do anything for me.

Someone on the houston board said you can rent the juice box for batting practice. Texags group buy please. That would be incredible.

This is just a fan at spring training, but interesting take from Lance. If Cole is out for a significant amount of time, the Yanks may be in trouble.

Rodon was bad and injured last year and got lit up in a ST start already.

Cortes took a big step back in 23 and got lit up twice in ST starts already.

Stroman is a plus if he's your 3/4 type. But if he's your ace or #2 then you're probably not a great team

Clarke Schmidt is just a guy. He's more effective out of the bullpen.

Fangraphs shows their #5 (with Cole out) as Clayton Beeter. He's never thrown a pitch in the bigs and had almost a 5 ERA in AAA last year.

---

I know adding Soto to your team is awesome, but he may cost you the season since there is no Michael King (Padres #3), no Jhony Brito (Padres #4), no RHP Drew Thorpe (#73 overall prospect per FanGraphs), and no Randy Vasquez (AAA SP).

If my maths from a few weeks ago is correct then Snell might cost the Yankees around $50 M for 2024 if they sign him. Signing him to replace a potentially injured Cole seems unlikely.

Not a great sign for Cole.

They could try and trade for cease, but the white sox would have them over a barrel and demand a lot

I can't imagine the Yankees would include Spencer Jones in that trade. Dude is looking like an all-star.

All depends how desperate they are. The White Sox are in no rush to move him, so they can wait around til they get the kings ransom they're waiting on.

Yes, but the value drops if he starts out poorly (like last year) then the sample size of poor play grows and the innings you're getting moving forward shrinks.

The flip side of that is the slower the Yankees start the more desperate they will get and the higher the asking price will be

I am buying up all the Brown stock.

5.09 ERA
4.27 xERA
4.37 FIP
3.52 xFIP
3.74 SIERA

All the advanced #s point to underachieving in 2023. The bounceback is coming.

The pitching lab is going to do some work.

Quote:

Brown said he's working with pitching coaches Josh Miller and Billy Murphy on a new slider that will have a lower velocity, which will give him another weapon from the cutter-slider he threw last year. That pitch averaged 91 mph last year, and his fastball averaged 96 mph. Right-handed hitters posted an .839 OPS against Brown last year (lefties had a .728 OPS).

"Going into it, we talked about [how] at the end of this season my numbers weren't as good as they were at the beginning, and how to combat that and see what we can do to capitalize on a good, whole, entire season," Brown said. "Coming off a full season, the timing's a little bit different, too, with when you start throwing with more intensity."

2023 Slider - 91.7 mph, 2150 spin, 26.7 drop, 3.2 break
2024 Slider Start 3 - 87.8 mph, 2099 spin, 31 drop, 2 break (only 10 pitches)
-start 1 and 2 weren't on savant

Small public sample, but it looks okay so far.

Semi related...

I was wasting time looking at 2023 postseason #s and realized Brown was good there and in pretty much good in the postseason 2 years in a row now.

7 games (no starts)
10.2 IP
1.69 ERA
1.125 WHIP

Need an above average season from him, imo.

Sitting 3 feet from the Astros bullpen in Jupiter today. Boys got Hunter Brown's autograph and my oldest talked pitching with him a bit.

Also, who is the pitcher wearing #84? Didn't get his name but he talked with my boys for a few minutes too. Gave my oldest pointers on spinning in the curve.

What a camp Joey Loperfido is having. They love him. I've been told he has a love for baseball and the work that goes into it that a lot of the guys have who end up overachieving and having a long career. Hope he keeps it up in Sugar Land and helps out the big club soon.

Something with abdominal muscles. Supposedly it came back OK, but he's still benched for a little while.

Messed up his toe when he kicked the curb on the outfield wall at Dodger Stadium. Was screwed up all year after that.
