Yes, California still charges him when he plays in Texas (just like when you travel for any other job) if he's a California resident (which he will be).

Yes, you owe taxes where you play as well. But most states have some kind of offset for other state taxes paid elsewhere, but that's a state-by-state thing

Not to get into politics, but it's always amazing to me to think about taxes like this and the fact that we're still in a deficit when one baseball player is paying $35mm+ in taxes

This is the deal that could break baseball. It will set back any semblance of "competitive balance" for years. Small market teams will be clamoring again for revenue sharing. Good luck with getting any homegrown star to stick around beyond arbitration. Even average players will be cashing in.

The only saving grace is Dave Roberts sticking around long enough to F up the dodgers for years to come

This is a special situation. This is a 2 way mega star from another country. No normal free agent will be able to command anything remotely close. Soto is a generational talent hitting the market at an extremely young age, and I bet he'll be more than 200 M under Ohtani.

Tried on my buddies championship rings. ALCS ones from '19 & '21 plus the '22 title. These were the lowest tier Crane gave out to part time employees. I think the 22 one is still valued around $800.

LAD needs to win 3 or 4 World Series to justify that kind of spending
