Dry heat, moist heat, Miami Heat. Don't freaking matter.

120 degree heat and the sun baking on those seats for a day game in the middle of the summer will suck. That's partially why the little brother up in Arlington couldn't feel the stadium for so long even when they were good because it's too hot.

The A's to Vegas makes a ton of sense to me. However, I cannot for the life of my understand them approving to build a full outdoor stadium with no retractable roof. Those June through September games in the desert will be hot as hell and will likely draw in the same attendance.
It is definitely still warm but it defintiely cools off slightly in evenings there. Day games though..... oooof
But ... it's a dry heat!

It would be hilarious, and I mean gut busting hilarious, if the As made the playoffs during that span and played actual playoff games at a AAA stadium.

Please let this happen.

The Offseason has already jumped the shark. Yankees interested in trading for Kyle Tucker.

Lol
I don't necessarily disagree with the concept of trading one of these guys nearing free agency. The only way doing so with the Yankees would interest me at all is if Cashman is so desperate he will let us bend him over a barrel.

This gets brought up every few years. If we trade away a core piece in order to get prospects then it's time to say we're not serious about winning more titles. At that point it would be a mini rebuild or just try to be good enough to make the playoffs.

We have Altuve at the back of his prime. Tucker in his prime. Bregman in his prime. Alvarez in his prime. Verlander still good. Framber in his prime. Javier in his prime. McCormick in his prime. Pressly at the back of his prime. Abreu in his prime. Why on earth would anyone want to take away and not go for it?

I'm surprised at how little talk there is about Espada filling out his coaching staff. Any word on any of this?

When it comes to situations like this, when the committee wants to change the rules. What exactly can the players do to "fight" the new rule if they don't like it? Or do they just pretty much have to agree to it and just suck it up and play? Or are they like screw it we don't like this new rule we're going on strike.

The MLBPA has reprentation on the competition committee. So they (I think it's 4 players) speak for all players.

Per Granado, Breggy is moving to Arizona and doesn't expect to get a long-term deal from the Astros. That is no bueno.

I know we don't really pay our guys like the rest of the league, but we have some serious money coming off the books after 2024.

Free Agents
Altuve - 23. M (29 M actual $)
Bregman - 20 M (30.5 M actual $)
Graveman - 8 M
Valdez - 16 M (Abr guess)
Tucker - 17 M (Abr guess)
Urquidy - 5 M (Abr guess)

Vesting Options
Verlander - 17 M (with Mets $) - becomes player option of 35 M less 17.5 M from the Mets.
Prssley - 14 M

Fangraphs has our projected tax at only 84 M before adding in arbitration players (~50 M, I would guess). There is a world where we are over 100 M under the tax going into 2025. If you assume Press & JV come back then you should still have 70+ M to play with. We should be able to use that on Altuve and 1 more while still having plenty to spare. Especially with another 31 falling off after 2025 when Abreu & Montero are gone.

Who knows. Seems too random to just be made up. He's got his own horse racing company, maybe that's big in AZ. It is closer to home (New Mexico).

It doesn't make sense if his wife is from here and they have little ones. Maybe he is buying a second home in AZ to be closer to his family.

Maybe we end up not getting anything done but this whole 'He's moving to AZ so he's got one foot out the door' is BS.

I'm sure players move all the time. It doesn't mean a damn thing.

I've also heard it's pretty unlikely he signs an extension here.

So a professional athlete wanting to get the biggest pay day of his life is going to not play up to his best because he is sad the Astros won't extend him?

Yea we will get pissed off contract year Bregman and milk every little bit of his prime and probably let him walk.

He's from New Mexico and has family out there - he's worth ballpark $50m, and will likely retire in less than 8 years. Why is it interesting he has a house where he'll probably live after baseball?

I own a farm I don't live at, but do plan to once I retire in a few decades.

That matches with Nightengale said. It's a bummer, but I do get not wanting to spend bad money.

Eventually, we're going to have to keep some of the big guys.

Our History (from memory so let me know if I missed something)

Left
  • Marwin (mid tier, smart move)
  • Keuchel (turned down early extension)
  • Cole (unwilling to give richest pitching contact)
  • Springer (no interest in keeping, smart)
  • Correa (turned down low offer)
  • Morton (unwilling to give 3rd year)

Kept (extended, signed again, traded for, etc)
  • Altuve (twice now - 7 total years after arb)
  • Brantley (signed time 3x - 2 years, 2 years, 1 year)
  • Verlander (signed 2x and traded for after that - 2 years, 1 year due to opt out, and now 1.5 to 2.5 years)
  • Pressly (twice - 5-6 total years after arb)
  • Bregman (2 years tacked on)
  • Javier (2 years tacked on)
  • Alvarez (3 years tacked on)
  • Gurriel (extended him and picked up 1 year option)

TBD
  • Tucker
  • Valdez
  • Altuve (3rd time)
  • Bregman (2nd time)

LOL - right now that place ain't nothing but a long *** list of projects to do. In 20 years it may be worth bragging about if I live long enough to finish it.

Do we think Zach Dezenzo will be ready to take over? Or maybe there is a chance Matthews can slide over like Bregman did. We usually had bodies ready to step up in the past. 3B worries me a little.

Yeah if it gets us back to the World Series like Correa did in 21 then I'm good.
