IT'S MF GAMEDAY!

So a fun fact: in 1988 the Texas Rangers released a promotional music album creatively titled "Rangers". It's basically an album with Rangers centric songs that were supposed to benefit local charities. You can read more about it here.
https://theathletic.com/3082772/2022/01/21/reviewing-rangers-a-promotional-vinyl-record-from-1988/

Anyways when I found it back in 2010, I couldn't believe such a record actually existed. Because let me tell you some of these songs are unhinged and yet still catchy. It's clearly produced on what could only be described as a shoe string budget at best. There are hilarious shoutouts to players and even local establishments (looking at you Bobby V's). There's even a Tejano track out for all you Spanish speaking fans. I knew I had a solemn duty to preserve it for the historical record for Rangers fans to come.

To get you all pumped up for today, I present 1988's Rangers

Editor's Note: I was new to ripping vinyl at the time so the audio levels are a little high and not quite right. Also I can't stress enough how cheaply produced this record is. Even though it was still sealed when I bought it, this was the best result.

I'm only through one song, but that is awesome. You can never get enough cheap 80's music, movies, etc.

I think Roll On Rangers is my favorite, but Rangers Rap is the most "unique".

I think we get to this guy, early.

Rangers are pretty patient on the road. Make this guy throw strikes. I think he relies on his 4Seam more than the other 2. If we can get a few hits in play like we did Framber, we'll get some runs.

Max needs to keep the Walks down and keep the DBacks off the bases. I think if we get to him early, we'll open things up.

I'm ready for Mad Max to shove tonight.

It's time. 3rd start back. I know he's not 100% and the velo is still down, but it's time for him to give us 5 or 6 quality innings

Seems like the worst thing that could have happened to him was the HR in game 1 off Verlander, ironically.

Taveras isn't chasing a ton, he's just not making at on of contact.

He had two walks in G1 -- and one of them contributed to the only reason we're not down 0-2 heading to Arizona right now.

He hasn't been great, but he's sporting a playoff OPS almost 200 points higher than Semien. Think about that.

This will seem to be a contradictory statement, but we must be patent and aggressive from here on out. We do that and we will/ should win this thing.

I'll be honest, a couple of those were a little hard to listen to, but I pushed through. Thanks for posting!

Back to work until closer to game time.

Back to the basics... whatever you were doing when we won... do that. Don't do whatever you did when we lost.

This is NOT the time to introduce something new.

Great breakdown of the end to game 1.

The Hedges and Evo in sync had me rolling.

Good news, I won't be going to any more WS games this season...

It doesn't help that it seems he's down 0-1 every AB on a pitch that looks low in the zone…it's happening to him a LOT. Then the out pitch is a change up that's low and dips further out of the zone because he needs to protect that part of the zone.

His approach has been patient…he's just not getting any help from the umps and it's happening to him a lot.

I don't hate his approach at all. He's been very Garver-esq with how patient he's been at the plate, but, he should also take a page out of Garver's book and swing a few more times first pitch. Leody's issue to me is that he's swinging and missing a lot, or fouling off pitches that he should be driving.

Garcia and Carter will swap spots in the line up tonight...

If you watch Leody, it's almost like he doesn't like a count with fewer than 2 strikes. He gets into quite a few 0-2 counts and then works it back to 2-2 or 3-2.

He's been striking out lately but he also takes his walks.

I like the idea of Semien - R, Seager - L, Garcia - R, and Carter - L. Carter batting cleanup is a certainly a choice though, but I am here for it.

He's the 2nd hottest hitter in the first two games behind Garcia...

I like it too, and it gives a potential edge to Texas with the new reliever rules...

R-L-R-L-R-S-L-R-S

In fairness, look at the sequence from G1 of the WS with JomBoy, above. That's a good 2" outside and the next placement exactly the same is called a B.

G2, B8 from:
https://texags.com/forums/53/topics/3370520/replies/66052198

1st two pitches:
Shows 2.7" outside for a strike. (#3)
Shows 1.6" outside the zone (#5)

B5 shows 1.0" outside the zone (#9)

Even when he is patient, the ump has screwed him. To start of 2 ABs with a ball called strike is terrible.

Switching Garcia and Carter? I would prefer seeing Taveras move to about #7, to separate him for Semien.
