I stand corrected. It doesn't apply on throws in the opposite direction of the runner. Wow.

I'm condemned to live in the Houston area. I had a church group thread of Astros fans I had to educate on this rule during the 2021 playoffs after Yasmani Grandal was smart enough to get in the way of the throw home. That's pretty much the reason I know that rule.

So if Jankowski weren't such a *****, it would have been 6-5 with bases loaded and still only one out, right?

So hear me out, we DFA Jankowski and pick up one of the Angels relievers. Martinez takes his spot in LF. Pretty even trade.

Possibly, but there is still the elephant in the room that is the ****ty Ranger bullpen. Am sure end result would have been the same with Chapman on the mound, or any other Ranger reliever available at that point.

Let's beat the Twins at home. Go Rangers

Oh gosh, he ducked on the throw home. That makes it so much worse. I assumed it was on the relay.

You could be 5 feet inside the foul line and you can't get called out for interference on the throw home. Pansy just didn't want to get pegged.
What a *****

Can't argue that point.

At all.

There is a limit on P you can have.

Send a reliever with options down. Problem solved.

Looks like Otto was just brought up. He just drew the short straw.

I'm ready for a public assassination. Time to DFA Chapman.

Speas might be an option.

Since being sent back down, he has appeared in 12G @AAA.

His 1st was a disaster.

After that?
11G, 12.1 IP, 0 ER, 10 BB, 17 SO, 0.00 ERA. .105 BAA

I don't think he's an option, but Antoine Kelly has apparently made good strides over the last couple of months. Has allowed ONE ER and has about a 34/6 K/BB ratio since June 13th.

I think you guys are missing the boat on Travis.

It's not that he ducked -- that's instinct.

It's that he turned around to check the runner at home instead of busting his ass down the line.

He also failed to get a bunt down in a crucial spot a few days ago.

When you are a guy that doesn't hit for power, does not have an elite arm, and is batting 0.167 for the month... Maybe do the little things?

Managing the Playoff Roster you get 13 P.

Starters:
RH: Scherzer (1), Dunning
LH: Montgomery (2), Heaney
5th: Gray (R)

Relief:
RH: Leclerc, Stratton, Sborz, Otto
LH: Chapman, Perez, Burke, Smith

IL: Eovaldi
Minors: Anderson, Bradford, Hernandez, Yerry, OWhite, Speas, Winn, Zak Kent

We'll know in about an hour if we got an relief (pun intended).

The 40 will post tonight and I'll update who our playoff Ps will be limited to, but for now, above is what we have.

Stats for RP for the month of August:

LeClerc: 2.00, 9G
Stratton: 2.00, 11G
Sborz: 5.79, 10G

Chapman: 2.08, 13G
Perez: 3.77, 6G
Burke: 5.23, 9G
Smith: 7.94, 13G

It is funny. A few weeks ago, LHRP was a strength and Perez was demoted from SP because he couldn't get out of the 1st Inning without giving up runs. Now, the LHRP are a weakness, but Perez appears to be the most reliable.
That's baseball.

September rosters increase by 2 spots and only 1 can be a P, IIRC. So, we'll go from 26 to 28. I'm not sure if that means we can carry 14 P in the Playoffs.

I added Hits above. So, 14 BB+H in 12.1 IP. That's a 1.14 WHIP. I'd rather give up a BB than a HR.

There's an argument to be made that Antoine Kelley has been the best pitcher in the Rangers minor league system this year. Hopefully he continues to develop and we see him in the bullpen next year ready to contribute.

The Guardians have claimed right-handers Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez off waivers from the Angels, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Am I correct to believe players that cleared can now be signed before midnight... still be on the roster for post-season, but the cost to the team is the pro-rated minimum?! The team that Waived the player will pick up the majority of the remaining salary.

ETA response

This:

Quote:

Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk was not claimed on outright waivers, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan. He'll remain with the Halos unless they surprisingly choose to outright him to a minor league affiliate, at which point Grichuk would have the right to elect free agency.

Seattle got RH RP Leone.

I wonder if the Rangers even put in a claim. Moore, maybe, but maybe not.

Remember, the Claiming team picks up the remaining salary. For some of those guys, their numbers don't warrant an improvement enough for the cost.

Seattle, Cleveland, Cincinnati... all with claims.

Many teams like the Rangers are at or near the CBTax. I think the Halos had to shed some salary to get below the Tax. If they didn't, their 2nd-3rd pick comp for Ohtani drops to between 4th-5th Rds.

If the Rangers pick up a player from the Angels, it could effectively help them get below the CBTax.

Odds are this is the "fairest" outcome, as it's really going to have only secondary impacts on playoff races. (And if the Indians make the playoffs, oh boy, there's gonna be some outrage).

Naturally, the secondary impacts are we get to play the talent infused Cleveland, whereas no one else in the division has them left on the schedule.

If we didn't put in a claim on Moore (especially) or Lopez, then someone in the front office needs to be fired. Probably the same person who thought this bullpen was even mediocre.

the bullpen was pretty good the first half of the season. But it seems that Sborz and Will Smith have run out of gas following the All-Star break. Chapman was great when we first got him, but he too hasn't been the same the past few weeks.

But yes, lately the overall bullpen hasn't been good. And I'll admit, I haven't had time to dig into these new rules. So did pass or Moore? Or did Cleveland just get to take whatever they wanted, and basically scooped up these players?

Also have to keep in mind, as DallasAg has been posting about, there is more to consider than just picking up player X if it pushes the overall payroll over the luxury tax threshold. Doesn't that also potentially impact our draft positioning?

I think we were already above the threshold, so we would pay 20% more I think.

But it's all hypothetical. Cleveland got them all because they were first. Rules allow taking multiple players in a single day.

They'll be near the end of the meaningless waiver order tomorrow.
Proposition Joe

Being able to take multiple players kinda seems like the rule wasn't all that well thought out (likely no one really saw a firesale like this coming).

It's hard to say... Likely thought out, but without any real flaws regardless of how they handle it.

In FBB, it is based on timer, I believe. So, the 1st player put on Waivers runs through the claims with the awarded team moving to the end of the line.

But, I believe this is blind, so you wouldn't be able to say, "pass on player 1" and then get player 2, because you don't know the order and it isn't live.

With the Rule V draft, which is live, a team can pass, but once they pass, they can no longer participate.

In this deadline, you have to take all of the players you want to claim if they are awarded to you. I think the logic there is don't put in for a claim if you don't really want the player.

There will likely be some changes, but as of now, a bubble team could really improve their chances.
DallasAg 94

Cleveland is 64-70 and is tied with the 18th best record in MLB with LAAA.

The just added a great RHRP, a great LHRP, and the best SP that was available at the trade deadline (who has sucked since getting traded).

They are 5 GB Minnesota to reach the playoffs. If they pass Minnesota, they'll be seeded 3rd and play WC3... and then the 2nd place Division Winner, before playing the AL's best record team.

Talk about Shooting-the-Moon.

Im gonna throw this out there and see if anyone else remembers reading the same, Bochy makes zero pitching decisions, purely analytics driven. He is told when to pull and who is pitching next. Hopefully I just dreamed up that craziness, but in todays baseball it could be believable.
