What's the issue with Leody in CF? He is 24, Serf3 next year (4 more yrs of team control). At 6'2"/195, still has the potential to add power. I think he still has some upside and will continue to improve offensively.

We need a LF.

JP Martinez is the leading candidate to be added to the OF starting 3, for 2024. At 5'8"/174 you have to be concerned about power.

Evan Carter is probably your guy, but likely a mid-season 2024 call-up.

Zero chance Langford plays CF. 6'1/225 and will likely put on more weight. Quick to the ball, but questionable CF coverage. Destined for LF.

Totally agree! Leody is doing fine in CF as long as he keeps progressing. Need a left fielder with some pop.

I think Carter will need put on a couple pounds (likely in the off-season) before we call him up next season

His splits are drastic to say the least. He's going to have to figure out how to put the ball in play against lefties, and I would assume that's going to be his single biggest area of focus and improvement this offseason. That and just getting stronger. I like Evan Carter just as much as anyone, but this year has been extremely up and down at times for him and it has definitely exposed areas of his game that still need significant improvement. We should just hope he can end the year on a high note with RR and go into the offseason looking to improve more.

Agreed. I wonder if they'd consider bringing him up to platoon with Grossman for the final stretch. They complement each other extremely well in that regard. Currently our LF options vs RH pitching are extremely weak.
Absolutely not. He's not ready for the jump. For the love of god can we please not rush the kid? We very well may have ruined Leody by doing exactly what you're suggesting.

So he's not ready because you say so? Carter has had nearly 900 ABs at the minor league level. For comparison Josh Jung had less than 700, Leody had nearly 2500, Duran nearly 1300. I'm not saying Carter is ready, only the rangers front office knows that. My question was if they're considering it, like they did Jung last season.
He has never had a single AB at the AAA level. Not one. Josh Jung played college baseball, Carter did not. If you count college ABs, Jung had over 1200 ABs after HS. Carter has had 889 and less than half of those are at the AA level or higher. Anyone who knows anything about baseball will tell you the two biggest jumps are from A ball to AA, and from the minors to the majors. Jung's minor league batting average was .311. Carter thus far is a .282 hitter in the minors. Jung is also 25 years old and fully physically developed. Carter turned 21 yesterday and is not. You're making an apples & oranges comparison.

And no, you don't bring up a rookie who has never played above AA to try to help you in a pennant run. Jung came up in a season where we lost 94 games.

I don't know how much, if any, progression is left for Leody imo. His slash line across four MLB seasons is as follows:

1108 PA 1025 AB 127 R 245 H 24 107 RBI 40 SB .239/.287/.376/.663

His minor league statistics are in large part around the same. Leody is only 24 years old, but he's been around a long time and played a lot of professional baseball between the minor and major league levels. His K%, BB% and Whiff% are also not good, and those tell a lot for me.

I see it as a conditioning thing. This is his 1st full season.

33
49
99
114G

I think he is worn down and will be better mentally and physically next season. Nothing can prepare you for the August grind physically, while also having the added pressure that every swing and every out means something.

I could see him being a .280/20/20 guy.
Currently as .258/12/11. With 30 games to go, I don't expect those to change dramatically.

Pre-ASB: 76G, .295, 10 HR, 9 SB
Post-ASB: 38G, .189, 2HR, 2 SB

We lost Heim and Jung at the bottom of the order. Was Leodys' drop that they figured him out, he stalled, or went back to him mean?!

Even if he is only a .280/15/15, I'd take that for League Minimum. Likely try to trade him, as well.

The only thing intriguing about Donaldson is he has 15 hits and 10 of them are homeruns. Beyond that, his average is significantly worse than Josh Smith.

That's a valid argument and there could very well be something to that. He just strikes out so much and does not get on base like he should. He's GOT to get on base more via the BB if he's going to swing and miss like he does. Evan Carter is actually a good example of what I am going for. Evan Carter on the season has 103 SO's, which by todays standards is slightly below MLB average (as in not good) at 22.39%; but, Evan Carter also has 74 BB's, which is a whopping 16.02% and good for top five in the entire MLB. Leody is sporting almost the exact same SO%, but a horrendous 5.34% BB%, which would put him in the 11th percentile (or 236th) in the entire MLB. He's got to walk more.

Holy ***** The Los Angeles Angels have placed starter Lucas Giolito, relievers Matt Moore and Reynaldo Lpez, and outfielders Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk on waivers, sources tell ESPN. Huge potential playoff implications: All can be claimed by teams for free on Thursday. Claims will be taken in order from worst to best record.

WTF???

Why???

So we would be ahead of Seattle, Baltimore and Tampa Bay? And Atlanta and Los Angeles? Would take any of those dudes right now.

The Angels are a disaster.

We could literally use all of those guys. Lopez/ Moore specifically. Highly unlikely any of them make it to us though.

Renfro and Grichuk are Jayant upgrades in LF.

Would take Matt Moore any day.

Giolito sends Heaney to the bullpen.

This is like a friggin swap meet.

So right now, the ones ahead of us that matter are the Astros, Blue Jays, Red Sox and whatever NL teams are in the hunt.

And these are not revocable waivers.

Historically, the lost would pass the opposite league by record, then the current league the players were in.

So, these would go completely through the NL first.

Not sure how this changed in the latest CBA.

This could shake things up...

Where are you seeing it would go through the NL first? That makes no sense. My understanding is it's strictly by record (worst to best).

That was an old clause. In the current CBA, it's strictly by reverse winning percentage.

Which means that the SwampAsstros would go ahead of us if we stay tied come Thursday.

I was saying historically it would and that was when they were revocable.

With the new CBA I was more asking than stating if it goes through the NL, like it used to.

Something to note:

If a club has already previously claimed a player on outright waivers in a given year, the club's claiming priority will be moved to last among the 30 clubs.
The Astros already claimed Jake Cousins on waivers this year. If this is correct, they're behind the Rangers because they haven't claimed anyone.

I discussed at the trade deadline.

The Angels were close to the Luxury Tax. This is an attempt to ensure they stay below it.

If they exceed it,

Quote:

Part of their problem is if they break the Luxury Tax threshold, then the Comp pick for Ohtani goes from a pick between CB-2nd and 3rd Rd... to a pick between the 3rd and 4th Rd. According to COTS they have about $4M in space and that includes their recent transaction of Giolito and TOG.

So, going for the WC will need to consider the fact they are close to losing value in the Comp pick for Ohtani.

They gave up their 2nd and 3rd prospects, so they will have to spend big in FA, regardless.

Also, by doing this now, teams can add the player for the Playoffs. I believe they have to be on the roster by 9/1.

I'm still processing through all the implications. There are 5 players currently projected to be on playoff rosters who may find themselves SOL.

When Michael Phelps announced he'd return to swimming for the last Olympics, I said, "That sound you hear is from all the swimmers Phelps will replace who will no longer be Olympians."

This should be interesting. The 0-8 never seemed so good.

I think there are 3 "waiver periods", the current one started immediately after the trade deadline, which resets the list.

But there's the:

Reds
Cubs
Marlins
Giants
Dbacks
Twins
Blue Jays
Red Sox

All picking before anyone in Texas. So it seems likely neither Texas team will get a crack.

I wonder if SDP is in the same boat and will do the same:

https://texags.com/forums/53/topics/3370520/replies/65292635

Quote:

Somewhere I read (and posted here) that SDP needs to get under their Luxury Tax (Tier3?) or the QO for Snell and Hader drop in value from between CB2 and 3rd to after 4th. Their 1st pick would also drop 10 slots.

I don't like it. Ruins the integrity of the league a bit. It's the equivalent of the worst team in fantasy drop his entire team with 2 weeks left in the season.

Pick up Moore immediately. We don't have enough left hand pitching in the bullpen.
