Anyone know where John Rhadigan's been? Don't think he's been on Bally since like May? Maybe June.

Relieved to pull that one out.

Hopefully we give Scherzer better run support tomorrow

Scherzer better not need more than 5 Rs.

Tonight began the final 50 games of the season. Playing .600 ball gets 96 wins, forcing Houston to go 32-17 to tie. So, a 3 game lead is either significant or small, depending on how you look at it. Also, as recently as a week ago, there were only 4 AL teams out of serious playoff contention. All of a sudden, it's looking like 7 teams battling for 6 spots, with Boston and NYY holding on for dear life. Why the Mariners sold their closer is beyond me. They have the #7 run differential in the AL, and looked really good against Houston before the break.

Meanwhile, the Angels total collapse continues. Estevez cannot be put in a game right now. Angels have lost 7 in a row. 11.5 games back.

A win is a win, but still a lot of ugliness and sloppiness to be disappointed about.

Walks are how Oakland beats you. Dunning didn't pound the zone as well as he usually does. In the 3rd inning, he walked 2 guys who both came around to score.

9 of our hitters struck out. Waldichuk hasn't gone deep into a game since April and we let him do just that. Seemed like most outfielders would've caught the ball on the 2 run double hit by garver. The pitcher screw up at first base and terrible throw to home helped us a lot too.

We really didn't play a good game at all. Leody, lowe, and Duran all looked awful at the plate. I admit I was wrong about Garver sucking, but it took an injury to Jonah heim for him to be any good.

Hopefully we play better tomorrow would be nice to get a 10-0 win and rest our good pitchers / players some.

Rangers won a game out west without a travel day.

Not sure if discussed earlier, but Heim took BP yesterday and caught a bullpen session.

Seriously? If you can't enjoy a win like tonight given the circumstances with injuries, the fact that it's the 7th in a row and we gained ground in the standings, I don't know what to tell you.

It was a nice win. Reminded me of those games against Houston about 10 years ago. Give Altuve his 2 singles, don't throw Carter a slider in the zone, get into the pen, and wait for something good to happen. Every win counts the same. I think the 2011 team went 56-24 over the final 80. Guarantee you there were some "ugly" wins.

I think maybe he was looking at us and Minnesota. Which only way that will happen is if Minnesota ends up with a better record than Houston.

You cannot avoid the bye without winning the Division. To avoid the bye, you must win the division AND be top 2 in the League.

I assume this is already known.

Garver has a career .817 OPS as a catcher. His issue has always been playing time. No reason he can't DH most nights.

Guys...the top 3 seeds are Division winners. If we win the West, we must come in top 2 of DIVISION WINNERS to get the bye. Win the West and who cares about Houston!

Absolutely agree. He's always had an above average to good bat. It's been a playing time issue for him. He and Jankowski have really, really helped this team this year. I'm not sure where we'd be without them given all the injuries we've had. The top 1/2 or 2/3's of the lineup is really going to have to hold fast and carry this team down the stretch as well (including Garver and Jank), because outside of a bunch of K's I don't know what we're going to get from Duran, Leody, Grossman/Huff.

It is already known but the lead on the wild card rests with how many games we are up on Houston. Minnesota is irrelevant at this point.

1) To avoid the bye, you must win the division AND be top 2 in the League. - Correction, to get the bye to the ALDS you must win the division and be a top 2 division winner in the League.

2) Minnesota is relevant at this point, it's just that these are two separate races and one is a qualifier for the other. Every game that the AL Central leader and AL East leader loses (assuming it's not to a team that we are in a division race for) helps our potential seeding. But that seeding only becomes significant if we win the division (qualifier).

I understand that. Minnesota is not going to finish with more wins than Houston. If it wasn't for their dog**** division they wouldn't even be in the playoffs.

The difference between where the team is now vs where it was early, is that they actually have learned to be patient late in games.

One of my complaints early was, once they got behind, they'd just start swinging for HRs. I compared that to the Astros during our series against them. The Astros having won a Championship last year... players knew they just needed to get on base and someone in the lineup would move them around.

We rolled over late in games at the start of the season, and now, it seems like they have jelled and expect to piece things together to win.

IMO, I described it as the difference between being winners and being champions.
