I remember watching Kevin Brown paint with 96 mph sinkers, only to get five 3-hoppers in a row through the hole and end up going 4 1/3 with 11 hits and 6 runs after pitching pretty well.

Also, the bottom of the Dodgers order can be handled IF you locate. Guys at the top can hit good pitches. Can't put 7-8-9 in hitters counts.

It was a weird bad start though. He gave up all those runs in like 12 pitches. It was really just a horrible series of pitches. The team picking him up certainly helps mentally. He's always been subject to getting into a bad frame of mind and then everything snowballs.
He's a solid 4/5 guy in the rotation, borderline 3. But 4 innings of solid work? His season ERA is still 4.9ish, he's given up more hits than IP, and he's on pace to give up the most HRs in any season in his career. Let's not get carried away.94chem said:PatriotAg02 said:

A #4/#5 is similar to a bullpen guy in that they are likely always going to show flashes of being a lot better -- if they didn't have those flashes they wouldn't be big leaguers.
But the difference is guys that can put it together consistently. Perez isn't that guy. Perfectly fine rolling him out there every 5th day.

After that, just pound the zone and save the bullpen.
55 Strikes and 24 Balls after that. Of that... Freeman was walked on 5 pitches.
You could argue he went after the hitters once he was down 4-0 and his success improved. THAT... or after the past 2 games, the Dodgers hitters were so worn out to start the game that they were exhausted and couldn't hit.

We've all hated on Perez this year and have all called for him to be replaced by a trade piece. Isn't it ironic that it was Perez that may have had one of the most crucial outings of the year for this squad (timing wise)? Baseball is a funny sport.
