Is he hurt? His numbers got so bad so quickly that it's the first thing I would consider

Looks like we have some interest in Lynn. Only interest I'd have is if he went to the bullpen. His k/9 is high. Everything else is no bueno.

No thanks. That's a move JD would make

Tampa Bay and the Astros losing just goes to show that a lot of teams are really struggling right now, mostly because of it being a super long stretch of the season. We're just struggling slightly more.

Yeah, at this point the only division that is currently looking like it's locked up is the NL East. Every other division looks to be a dog fight at least in the first and second slots. That does not bode well for the trade deadline and both central divisions being so awful is really gonna throw a wrench in things.

Going to be a very interesting trade deadline indeed. Some teams are going to have to make big boy decisions on big time players.

Does Milwaukee really want to trade Corbin Burnes when they are 1.0 game out, even though Burnes has stated he does not want to be there and won't resign with them? The same can be said for Cleveland who is actually LEADING their division.

How big do the Mets sell? Do they simply trim dead weight and regroup for next year, or do they fire sale and begin to build around a different core of players? Again, the same can be said for the Padres and the Cardinals.

Dunning is 28. This is his 3rd season. You keep talking like he's an established vet. It is possible for a pitcher to improve as he gains more experience. Especially with a new coaching staff in place this season.

Absolutely.

That still doesn't change that the advanced metrics show what he's done so far this season has been a whole lotta smaller-sample-size luck.

He could turn out to be a sub-3ERA arm from here on out. But with the data we do have of his K/9 and BABIP, I certainly wouldn't bet on it. He's not striking out guys at near the rate he was in previous years. Now usually the talking heads will reference some change in approach or eureka moment that explains why suddenly he's a stud because that's what talking heads are paid to fill airspace with.

And some of the time there's something to it.

But most of the time it's fool's gold and the results start looking like what the #'s say they should. For every Jamie Moyer where it finally "clicks", there's two dozen John Koronka's and Scott Feldman's ("he's a pitch to contact guy that induces a lot of ground balls and that's exactly the type of pitcher that will do well pitching in Texas!").

But yes, he is 28 so this could very well be a year where everything clicks and he's a TORP guy from here on out.

Looking at the rosters and talent on each team in the division (aside from Oakland), the division is wide open and IMO whichever team "wins" the trade deadline is going to take the division.

If we rolled into the ASB 6 games up on #2 and 8-9 up on #3 I'd feel pretty good about being able to hold off the rest of the division even without any major moves on our part.

But a 2 game lead on Houston with Seattle also winning 7 outta their last 9... If either one of those teams lands a frontline starter or big bat we're in trouble.

Need to be aggressive. I think the batting lineup is fine -- no real area for a significant upgrade. But need a starter and another bullpen arm.

After looking into it a little more, Lynn could be a nice addition in the bullpen/ long relief. His fastball spin rate, whiff and k% are still great. Would definitely be against trading for him as a starter or if Chicago wants more than a bag of chips though.

I think Lynn could be a solid add. As gigem1223 pointed out, some of his advanced numbers are still good and we could really use a guy who just knows how to strike guys out (something I don't think we are great at across the rotation or pen). We would also give up next to nothing to get him. That being said, we still need a guy at the top of the rotation.

I was watching the highlights on YouTube and before you know it I was saying WTF? About 50 different times. Couldn't believe what I was seeing. Never expected it in a million years.

Coming into this series, the Nationals were 1-15 out of their last 16 at home. It's a surprise because I thought we would be ready to rock against the Red Sox and nationals. The nationals series was worse. Team got totally prison raped with no lube or courtesy spit by a bunch of JAGs who barely win any games. The Astros should trade for that Joey meniscus guy because he didn't hit any home runs this year, but when we come to town he looks like Barry bonds.

This is team is going nowhere…..fast.

The worst pitcher in the league the last 2 or 3 years pitches 7 strong against an all star lineup.

A guy who had hit 2 HRs all year hits 4 in one series.

I mean, this **** is just ****in' ridiculous right now.

Is this real life?

Thank God I assume not many people watch the MLB Draft or even can because this thing is a damned commercial for LSU Baseball right now with Jay Johnson part of the panel.

Maybe their early season play was a mirage and they're not as good as their 1st place record.

But they're also far too talented to be playing THIS badly. This current version is the worst team in baseball by a mile. They're not just losing, they're getting blown out in most games. And they can't execute in any facet of the game. It's like they heard that deGrom was lost for the season and all just gave up hope and quit executing.

Corey Seager, Jonah Heim, Nate Eovaldi, and Aroldis Chapman are the only ones who haven't faltered or gone completely in the tank.

Once one of our guys gets past first base, everyone on the team starts hitting like a little leaguer. Swinging at every pitch.

If I were the Pirates, I would just take the guy I thought was best overall. Like was said on the broadcast, there's no need to cut corners with generational talents coupled with the fact that you don't pick again until 42 in the second round.

Based on that room Langford was sitting in, he's gonna fit in just fine in Texas.

But seriously, MLB can't get these folks some better cameras/bandwidth for this? That looked like it was straight outta 1998.

Lots of Trout comparisons with Langford. The build, power, speed, range defensively. One can only hope. This outfield should be pretty dirty in the next couple years.

I like the pick a lot but he will be 22 before next season, so he needs to start putting it together rather quickly.

I assume that's the primary reason for selecting a college player: less time to the bigs.
