LeClerc having pitchcom issues is exactly what this game needs.

Bout over Bochy's bullpen decisions. Bases loaded 1 out. There's only 1 pitcher you bring in in that situation. A rookie ain't it.
I don't think he knows who to turn to right now, because they have all been ass recently.

Red Sox going in dry and hard. I wouldn't mind if they piled up 10 more runs right here. This team deserves it with the way they've been playing. Load the bases and play like freaking idiots swinging at every pitch. Score no runs. What a waste of time.l

Looks like you might get your wish…
An embarrassing, complete, and total pummeling might wake them up because nothing else has. They have been sleepwalking and playing like zombies since the TB series.

Pummeling? It's been weak contact after weak contact for hits. Is it frustrating? Absolutely but it's baseball. Put a tampon in and take some Midol. Your melts are becoming tiresome.

That's one guy who we just acquired, who can't pitch every day.

He just had yesterday off and threw like 10 pitches the night before

LeClerc will now do well enough for Bochy to use him in a high leverage situation next and then he'll screw up

Fitting ending. Our dribbler hits off the pitcher for a double play while there's find holes all night.

On to Washington. Hopefully we can find a sweep or at minimum a series win there.

Sums up our past month pretty well

Small sample sizes can make bad bullpens look decent.

Need a high profile arm before the deadline if we want to have a shot at going deep into October.

In 3 days, the rangers will probably have the best farm system in baseball.

Yes he's an expensive rental, but what would it take to get Hader from San Diego, and would you do it if you were CY?

I mentioned him earlier. He's a $14 MM dude, so probably $7 MM remaining. I'm guessing San Diego would not want too much in return for a pure rental - just pay his contract.

I bet Foscue would get him.

I'm still pissed off about last night. Not because of the ridiculousness of that inning but because the way it was managed. It was totally avoidable. Up 1 run, 1 out, bases loaded and you bring i in a rookie (who has been extremely shakey lately) when you have one of the best swing and miss pitchers in baseball available? Why did the frick did we trade for him? Ridiculous. And how bout change the damn batting order. Semien and Lowe have absolutely sucked for a month now and our fearless manager keeps putting them in 2 of the most important spots in the line up.

Would love to have him, just to watch Boch use him every 4 days in low leverage situations.

Agree on the bases loaded situation. That's as high leverage as you can get, it was the ballgame. It was obvious. We needed K's. We have one who can do that and has done that throughout his career. Would have been perfect spot for Chapman.

Our biggest issue is we only have 1.5 arms we can trust in the bullpen. It's Chapman and maybe Smith, who faltered against the Astros. No one else can be trusted. We aren't going to go far unless some arms step up soon. Can't get away with just 2 arms in the pen. Maybe leclerc can be a redemption story down the stretch. And maybe we make another move.

I'm not sure if I find this encouraging or frustrating.

I'm not sure I understand where all of the frustration with Will Smith is coming from. He's been our 2nd most consistent pitcher outside of Nate. I was just as frustrated as anyone that he gave up the lead against the Astros, but that was only his 2nd(?) blown save of the season.

Minor league report:
Sam Huff is knocking the cover off the ball in RR. Two doubles & 2 RBI last night, going 3 for 5 and bringing his season average at AAA up to .302. Marc Church threw a scoreless 9th, and Ian Kennedy struck out 2 in a perfect inning (didn't realize he had gone to AAA). Also, Ryan Tepera threw a perfect inning with 3 Ks - he has only thrown 9 innings this season but hasn't allowed a run and has struck out 15. A 35 yr old with experience in the majors, he might get a look if he keeps pitching well and our bullpen continues to struggle. Last season with the Dodgers he was 5-4 in 59 games, 3.61 ERA, 17 holds & 6 saves.

You guys that keep thinking we're going to see Chapman in "situations" or for multiple innings better get to know Chapman and Bochy.

Chapman is a 1 inning, start the inning guy.

Bochy is old school, not an analytics-heavy guy. He believes everyone "having and knowing their role" makes it a better team over 162 than using specific players in specific situations.

Also understand that while he has a pedigree better than any of the coaches we've had here in decades, over the course of his 25 year career he's a 0.500ish manager.

He's not a "push the right buttons to get the team thriving" manager, he's a "give me a good roster and I won't **** it up" manager.
Tksymm7

I think 1.5 arms is actually the right description of where our bullpen is at right now. Will Smith is the .5 because he's not being used in a role that would best suit him or the team. He's not a closer in any way because he just doesn't have the velo. His saving grace is his breaking ball, which would best be used in a 7th or an 8th inning against a side of the order that brings up 2/3 lefty hitters or in a super tight game where you need to get an out or two. That is what he should be doing, but because we have no one else right now, he's having to close games.

It's time we see a few arms from Round Rock. Grant Anderson isn't an answer, Sborz can't be trusted in high leverage spots again, and Brock Burke is another guy who likely isn't being used in a role that best benefits him or the team.

In regards do Bochy, he is by no means an analytics guy, but he doesn't shy away from them either. His job is to blend being a clubhouse manager with "feel", with the modern game of numbers. The Rangers have invested way to much in analytics, and baseball in general is entirely to numbers oriented to completely turn your nose up at them.
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Don't take my comments on Bochy in that I don't like him as a manager. Something can be said for comfort in the clubhouse -- reference Ron's teams.

But Chapman throughout his recent career has been a bridge-the-gap type reliever. We're simply not going to see him put into a high-leverage spot with runners on unless it's a unique scenario (playoffs, extra innings).
DallasAg 94
How long do you want to ignore this user?
So... like to shorten the game.
Tksymm7
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Absolutely agree. He is a one-trick pony in his career in terms of his usage/deployment, and he is likely not a closer at this stage in his career either.

"Shorten the game", "Bridge the gap"... Whatever phrase you want to use. It's just a fun talking head phrase for having a regular reliable bullpen arm you use for specific innings.

It's not to be confused with "lets take out our starting pitcher who is pitching well and under his pitch count to go with an unproven, small-sample-size, reliever". That's called "getting cute".
