Perez isn't as bad as he was today, but this idea that he's a 4.5+ Era pitcher on the road but the trick is if we throw him at home he'll be dominant is just small sample size.

It is what it is. I disagree with this whole punted thing. They took a calculated risk that we could hopefully pull it out while saving starters for stiffer competition. That hasn't worked out, but I don't have an issue with it in principal.
Maybe, but as mental as pitching is it can damned sure play a big part if he's comfortable and confident at home.

I'm fine with him in the roster. I have no concept of why he's at DH ever, much less twice in a row.

And in 2021 when his road ERA was 2 runs better... wasn't comfortable at all at home?
Players tend to play better at home, but it rarely makes a bad pitcher good or vice versa.

Part of my thought on the Home split was the new rules on shifts and playing on the Rangers turf.

This game shows why we should take the win vs teams like the Tigers. A win is a win in the standings.
That logic assumes we would have gotten the win had we not done anything.

It's more just an example that "resting up for series x" isn't really a thing.
The minimal win probability improvement of having your guy at 100% rest for the big game doesn't counter the win probability decrease of not having him in the lineup for a "punt" game.
Yes it's a long season and players need rest. But head-to-head standings rarely come into play. Every game matters the same until you've clinched.
