But this isn't possible with the 3-batter minimum. After 3 batters usually the damage is done or we're in a situation where damage is imminent. He can't be trusted with anything less than a 3 run lead.

He's been pretty good out of the pen. Not so good as a starter. The 5 outs he got Saturday in the 7th and 8th inning were enormous. But awesome, let's go with Smith and Chapman, both out of the pen, neither can get anybody out.

I don't think the Nationals or Phillies cared. The 2021 Red Sox and Dodgers didn't care either on their way to the LCS.

I've got no problem with that aspect of it- makes winning the division mean a lot.

Previously wildcard might have meant a few more road games, but possibly an easier opponent.

Now you have to play a full series on the road just to travel somewhere else.

You raise a good point. Problem is, we just don't have many options, somebody has to go in. Chapman does do better in the 7th or 8th inning, so maybe that is the key. Leave the 9th for LeClerc? Assuming we get the lead of course?

And yes, I realize it wasn't that long ago we didn't trust LeClerc either.... who else is there, Sborz or Burke. Just not many options. Stratten was good following the trade, but it seems like he has struggled lately as well.

I agree. After losing the division with this bullpen I have zero faith in this team. I hope they prove me wrong.

Similar to game 7 in 2011, they aren't out of it but I'm mentally prepared for the L.

Just curious, was there ever any interviews/discussion on why Grossman was moved up to the 3 hole? I really don't understand that move. We've had him there for several games now and I truly don't understand what a difference that brings to the lineup. I would prefer to get more at bats for the likes of Garcia, Jung, Heim, etc. over Grossman. If this has already been discussed, my apologies!

Chapman has pitched 3 innings vs TB this season and given up 0 runs. He's still a good arm out of the pen. What he is not is a closer. He's great in the 8th, terrible in the 9th. Has to be mental.

I disagree. The Rangers are just a very streaky team IMO. They look excellent for a stretch of games, then play like the Bad New Bears for a stretch. I personally think they'll make some noise this postseason but the bullpen will eventually be their Achilles Heel.

I think he only has 1 appearance vs. TB. He struck out the side in T9 and got the win when we walked off in B9.

I grew up in Dallas and still occasionally venture over to DMN for articles on DFW sports. I've never felt like DMN staff or even the local DFW TV coverage was wildly pro-DFW sports. They always seemed to maintain a neutral reporter role. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Sherrod, Galloway, Cowlishaw, Sherrington, always played a neutral role and didn't act like fans. Even Brad Sham has always maintained a professional state.

Then you have the Houston media, which essentially serve as extensions of its god-awful fanbase. None of them called the Astros out during the sign stealing investigation, none of them held them accountable for Brandon Taubman or trading for Roberto Osuna. I remember a few years ago Brian T Smith wrote an article listing everything he hated about Dallas-Fort Worth. He found a way to write as many articles hating on the Cowboys as he wrote for the Texans.


having lived in both cities...100% accurate assessment. DFW fans get a lot of **** for the cowboys because it's a tu type fanbase, but we all know that's mostly the non-Dallas folks...no different from tu and bama t shirt fans. But overall, DFW sports and sports fandom is a MUCH more classy bunch and that's not just compared to Houston, but I'd say most of the country. I'm a homer sure, but have lived in a lot of places in this great nation. Houston is as vitriolic as it gets, which has always surprised me. I'd say the "Texas pride" in Houston far exceeds any other big city in TX minus maybe San Antonio, but they sure don't embody Texans when it comes to sports. That goes for fans and journalists alike.

really hoping these boys light a fire after that dumpster fire of a game 162. Would love to just trounce Tampa and move on. I have zero feels for how this series is going to go though. If we get bounced out early, it was a fun ride and let's do it again next year (minus a couple of aces we thought we'd have). Well, I guess we'll get Scherzer back at least.

It's a 3-game series, there's really not a whole lot of analysis you can do when we're only going to see each team's top 2-3 starters. With no team having a true ace, it's a crapshoot.

Semien, Seager, and Taveras are the only players that have hits off of Glasnow. Semien and Taveras are the only ones with RBIs.

Everyone either hasn't faced him or was shut out in the game earlier this year against him.

Having Grossman hit 3rd again is just getting embarrassing. So we have 4 lefties in a row (9th thru 3rd). If they switch it to a lefty, it's still 3 in a row (9th thru 2nd). I don't get it...

Semien bats right. Grossman is a switch hitter. Typically, Garver plays that spot against Lefties.

he's been hitting 3rd against righties for a while now, has been very productive and produced a few multi hit games in the 3 hole. Honestly it just deepens the lineup and spreads out our big bats

I like it! Holland had some good years with the Rangers before he left and bounced around different teams for a while before eventually retiring.
