A T10 we are a part of:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38121409/mlb-power-rankings-2023-week-18-every-team-post-trade-deadline

1. Atlanta Braves - (69-37) Previous : 1

2. Baltimore Orioles - (66-42) Previous : 2
3. Texas Rangers - (62-46) Previous : 5
4. Houston Astros - (62-47) Previous : 6
5. Tampa Bay Rays - (66-45) Previous : 4
6. Dodgers
7. Toronto Blue Jays - (60-49) Previous : 7
8. Phillies

20. Minnesota

I mentioned the big loser at the trade deadline, IMO, were the Dodgers.

This was posted earlier. Who did the Dodgers get to bump their WAR?

Ah, found it. Lance Lynn, Joe Kelly, K Hernandez and Rosiaro

More shocking that we made 3 major trades for Chapman, Scherzer, and Montgomery and remain T10... is that NYMets are not in their T10.

Quote:

Mets traded RHP Justin Verlander to Houston Astros for OF Drew Gilbert and OF Ryan Clifford.
Mets traded RHP Dominic Leone and cash to Los Angeles Angels for SS Jeremiah Jackson.
Mets traded CF Tommy Pham and cash to Arizona Diamondbacks for SS Jeremy Rodriguez.
Mets traded LF Mark Canha and cash to Milwaukee Brewers for RHP Justin Jarvis.
Mets traded RHP Max Scherzer and cash to Texas Rangers for SS Luisangel Acuña.
Mets traded RHP David Robertson to Miami Marlins for 2B Marco Vargas and C Ronald Hernandez.
Their haul..

2. Luisangel Acuna (Texas - Max) - 43 Overall
4. Drew Gilbert (Houston - JV) - 67 Overall
6. Clifford (Houston - JV)
9. Vargas (Miami - Robertson)
15. Jarvis (Milw - Canha)
22. Hernandez (Miami - Robertson)
23. Jackson (LAAA - Leone)

Officially put McClanahan on the 15IL.

Civale is the only SP they picked up.

Not when you analyze things.

The Chapman trade mainly affected us at the major league level by losing Ragans, a pitcher we didn't want anymore, and a lotto prospect buried deep in the system.

The Scherzer trade was only one prospect.

The Montgomery trade was 2 prospects and a reliever / pitcher ranger fans saw more than they wanted to see. I can admit losing Roby kind of sucked, but Saggesse and acuna were both blocked long term anyway.

All in all….I think we did well. I'd give the front office an A for the trade deadline. If Saggesse, acuna, or Ragans end up being good it's no big deal because they weren't in the long term plan anyway.

Hopefully we can sign Montgomery in the offseason if he does well for us.

Yeah, pretty wild we were able to address multiple big needs and keep guys that were obvious big trade chips like Foscue, Leiter, Winn, and Harris.

Jumping ahead, it makes for a potentially exciting off-season as well. CY will have a lot of pieces to offer teams in trades to shore up whatever the organization & Bochy feel like we're lacking (pitching I would suspect).

I didn't get to watch yesterdays game but after catching up on the highlights and stats, it was nice to see Garver have a nice day both at and behind the plate. Over the last two weeks he's quietly put together a pretty solid stretch filling in for Heim, batting .300 with a .950 OPS.

Apparently Seattle wants to dance. Only 6 back. Their last 10 games are vs. Texas and Houston.

Lol, Seattle actually passed the Angels in the standings. They are playing each other this weekend, so they could theoretically almost put the Angels away with a sweep or even taking 2 out of 3.

On the radio broadcast, I think it was Hicks was saying how remarkably well he hits when he is catching. I couldn't remember, so I looked up the stats:
17G, 56 AB, .327, 6 HR, 17 RBI, 17 SO, 6 BB, .393 OBP.
overall
39G, 130 AB, .262, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 43 SO, 17 BB, .347 OBP

Now, that isn't a surprise. Most player at DH struggle with maintaining focus in the game. It is those rare players like Ohtani that can excel at DH.

And only 2.5 back from Toronto.

With losing Bichette (Pateller Tendinitis), and their closer Romana (Lower back), it will be interesting to see how the BlueJays fare.

They got Jordan Hicks and DeJong... and Ryu (SP) is back from the IL.

5-2 vs Astros. With that schedule they could win the division. Now that could set up a really salty 1-2 wildcard matchup between Texas and Houston.

September has the potential to finish in an exciting way, if Seattle and LAAA stay close.

What if the Rangers have distance for the Division lead and decide to "rest" their rotation against Seattle and Seattle bumps the Astros from the playoffs.

It's going to be a blood bath those last 2 weeks. 1 team is going to get left out in the cold. Texas in the wild card isn't the end of the world. Lots of teams have come out of the WC to make the WS.

We likely just bumped 2 guys (Dunning and Gray) from our playoff rotation:

#2 Eovaldi (19, 2.69)
#5 Dunning (16, 3.14)
*14 Gray (19, 3.66) <- 2outs shy of Qualifying

Fabulous! Since MLB added the wild card in 1995, there have been 28 world series with 56 teams. 13 of those have been out of the wild card. That's a really high percentage and basically even odds with the division winners. Just keeping things in perspective.

That can be a little misleading.

From '94 to '11, a WC team was treated as any other team. 4 teams. 3 Div teams and a WC. 10 of those 13 teams were during this period:

Quote:

'97 Marlins
'00 Mets
'02 Giants & Angels
;03 Marlins
'04 RedSox
'05 Astros
'06 Tigers
'07 Rockies
'11 Cards

From '12 to '19 there were 2 teams that played in a 1game series into the WC role.

The new format has a WC round were there is a 3G series played on consecutive days.

6 teams:
Rd 1: 3G
Bye: #1 & #2
#3 plays WC3
WC1 plays WC2

Rd 2: 5G
#1 plays WC1/WC2
#2 plays #3/WC3

So, in Rd2 for the LDS, a WC team at best starts G1 with their #3... maybe #4. Then, go #1. 5G series matchups could be:
DivW: 1, 2, 3, 4, 1
WCW: 3, 1, 2, 4, 3

That is a great nugget. So let's see, your guy gets beaned, gets some noogies from our guy, and gets ejected from the game. Your pinch runner is immediately gunned down by a snap cannon blast to 1st, while our guy gets to stay in the game & goes on to get the decision, and we get the win.

"Your terms are acceptable."

Also, not calling you (or anyone) out but:
