Supposedly Astros will not be reuniting with Verlander, at least at the moment. Can't find where I read this earlier but not enough in their Farm system for the Mets.

They do not have enough in their farm system for any really meaningful transaction. They would have to include players from their current MLB roster, which seems..counterintuitive?

Texas was rolling out a #2 and a bunch of #5's... Going to upgrade to a bunch of #3s now.

Montgomery seems solid not top end.

Very solid 3 that'd be our 1 or 2 till Eovaldi gets back

From all accounts it appears Nate Evoladi will be back at the end of next week. If that is indeed the case not overly worried about Starting pitch if we get Montgomery.

For now…

1. Scherzer
2. Gray
3. Montgomery
4. Dunning
5. Heaney

Send Perez to the pen.

Is that what y'all are thinking?

If we can get Eovaldi back in a week or two then this rotation is really good now. Move Dunning to the pen and that'll help the back end.

Move Heaney to the pen. Don't need to pay him 20M.

Maybe the Dodgers would still take Perez

You think Perez stays in rotation over Dunning?

Montgomery a solid get. With Scherzer this returns to a playoff rotation. Can't say I think it can get you to the WS, but I don't mind rolling it out there.

Way I see it with Montgomery/Scherzer adds:

-Eovaldi, -Heim: Playoff team. Coin-flip to win the division. ALDS would be coin-flip, ALCS ceiling.
-Eovaldi, +Heim: Playoff team, win division by 3-4 games. ALDS we'd be decent favorites. ALCS coin-flip.
+Eovaldi, +Heim: Playoff team, win division. ALDS favorites. ALCS slight favorites.

Anything in addition to that is a bonus.

With how Dunning has been his last few outings. Yes. He provides more value in the pen.

Ideally no, but Dunning provides more of a cushion in the pen being able to pitch more than every 5 days. And he can come in if a starter is in trouble early (Perez, Heaney recently)

who is Roby?

Tekoah Roby, ranked #11 in the Ranger's system. RHP, 21 years old.

Quote:

After taking Evan Carter in the second round of the 2020 Draft, the Rangers used their third-rounder on another high schooler whom they valued more than the rest of the industry. They signed Roby away from a commitment to Troy for a slightly over-slot $775,000 and have been pleased by his development since. After getting shut down with a sprained elbow in 2021, he was fully healthy last year and held his own as one of the youngest starters (age 20) in the High-A South Atlantic League.
Roby can attack in any direction with his four-pitch repertoire. He can work north and south by pairing a fastball that plays better than its 92-96 mph velocity thanks to its outstanding induced vertical break and the extension in his delivery with a high-spin upper-70s curveball with downer break. He can also operate east and west with a fading low-80s changeup moving in the opposite direction from a low-80s slider that he added last summer.
Though Roby may not have a true plus pitch, he could have four solid offerings once he's fully developed. He has a loose arm and repeats his delivery well enough to provide strikes, though his command is a work in progress. He misses in the middle of the zone more than he should, leaving him vulnerable to homers, but he could become a mid-rotation starter if he locates his pitches more consistently as he gains experience.

Heaney first candidate for the pen (due to contract controllability), then Dunning.

Problem with Perez in relief is that his first time through the lineup is typically not that great, whether there's something to it or just random luck he takes a while to "find his groove".

That's good point. Forgot about Heaney's contract.

I wonder if the Eovaldi MRI pushed us away from Hicks and towards Montgomery + Stratton.

Saggese (#14) became a trade asset that was blocked. Did we get maximum value? Absolutely.

King - Likely ran his course here. Hope he figures out a path forward. St Louis is certainly an organization that can help him.

Roby (#11) - Struggling this season. I liked him, but he is depth trade.

I hope Stratton continues in the right direction, but Montgomery was the prize.

Very solid.

That Jung AB was a scared player who wanted no part of being in the batter's box. It was pathetic.

Looked more like a rookie looking like a rookie against one of the best pitchers in the game to me

I think Perez is the 1st one off the island. I think I've come to grips with the fact Perez just doesn't handle pressure. His performance last year was on a team that was expected to lose.

Seems the more pressure on him, the more he cracks. Once he says, "screw it" he pitches lights out. Give up 4ERs and just start throwing, he is fine. As the pressure of the season grew he has fallen apart.

Personally, he needs to go. Trade him, get something for him. Cash. Baseballs. He isn't reliable or trusted. ESPECIALLY not in the BP. If he remains on the team, maybe you use him instead of a BP day..

If you can't move Perez, move Heaney. I think Heaney has more value in trade than a BP piece.

We have Burke, Chapman, and Smith as LH RP. Heaney and Perez don't add much value there.

Stratton is a RH RP. We have Sborz. We could add one more.
Proposition Joe

1200+ innings of mediocre pitching and we're attributing it to "can't handle the pressure"?
gigem1223
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The biggest move that could be made to improve this bullpen is for June Sborz and/or 2018 LeClerc to return back to form. Unless they can pry Bednar away from the pirates I don't see much else they can do now that Hicks is gone.
