It's going to be fun to roll out an OF of Chas, Jake, & Dirden with Dubon at 2nd & Diaz DHing. Really ready to reign.
Especially at those Opening Day prices, but I'm sure many paid just to see the banner unveiling.

Wonder why TK and Blum aren't broadcasting these games... Something to do with the network negotiations?

Chas could make the All Star team this year, and folks will still say the Astros need to upgrade.

Yeah I gotta think the owners step in at some point to get this lengthened out more. They are losing probably a solid 20 mins of alcohol sales per game. That's an avg of 27 hours of stadium alcohol sales over the course of the season

Will have to see how it evens out against the hourly employees not working as long

It's not just alcohol sales. Its ice cream and candy for kids and an extra round of cokes. It's all going to add up. And as noted those hourly people will miss time every game. That will add up for them in lost wages.

A lot of unintended consequences.

Curious what the consensus opinion is on the gold jerseys. My son wants a Pena jersey but they're all gone in youth sizes at the moment. Do you guys think they'll make more or is this a once they're gone they're gone type thing?

I think they'll make more soon. They just uploaded more of the Tucker ones online after they sold out already

Is this the first season that we have been the betting favorite to win it all before the season starts? I feel like that's always the Dodgers.

Eventually the oddsmakers will stop trying to artificially inflate the Doyers and recognize the real contenders of the league.
No matter what!
Epstein didn't do, you know, the thing...
I'm the rare Astros/Cowboys/Spurs fan. We do exist

The pitch clock should be at 20 seconds and 25 with runners. The forgotten fans in this are those who forked over significant money for tickets and the whole ballpark experience. If you want something timed out for 2 hours, go see a movie. Same thing with college football wanting to reduce the number of plays. One of the best things about watching college football is seeing the young guys get a shot at playing time.

What's gonna happen at Chavez Ravine when fans show up casually late in the 8th inning?

If you really feel cheated by shorter games why not just add another commercial between innings? Give people more time to get a snack, go to the bathroom, etc. Even most commercials are more entertaining than watching batters step out of the batters box to adjust their gloves after every pitch.

When baseball was the most popular game in the US, way ahead of football, games lasted on average between two and two and a half hours.

Since I got the gold rush hat coming Wednesday, I'm going to probably get rid of the Astros fitted hat on the left. It's a medium/large hat with the championship logo on the side. I'll sell it for $30. Only worn once.

This is just fricking great. I will now pay $300+ for the family to go to a game and we will spend more time in traffic to and from the game than the actual game now.

https://www.mlb.com/news/ranking-2023-team-tiers

Quote:

Tier 1: World Series or bust
Unlike years past, there's not one or two clearly top dogs, head and shoulders above their peers. Instead, there's a handful of extremely good teams that have their sights set on the ultimate prize. Anything less will be seen as a disappointment, and we think six teams fit in this group.

  • Astros
  • Braves
  • Mets
  • Padres
  • Phillies
  • Yankees
The Astros … need to overcome the fact that there hasn't been a repeat champion in nearly a quarter century, since the 1998-2000 Yankees; and yes, Justin Verlander has left town; and yes, now Jose Altuve has a fractured thumb. But no AL team has won more games over the last six seasons, and maybe you remember that Houston's pitching was so absurdly deep last October that they could barely find room for outstanding pitchers such as Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia to even get on the mound. Remember: 99% of their innings came from pitchers with an ERA under 4.00, and while Verlander is irreplaceable, there's now more room for rookie sensation Hunter Brown, who is drawing a whole lot of comparisons to, well, Justin Verlander. (Plus: Don't sleep on Bryan Abreu, the best reliever you don't know.)

So sure, they'll pitch, and their big offseason lineup addition was to upgrade first base from the disappointing Yuli Gurriel (84 OPS+) to Jose Abreu (133 OPS+), which is actually a pretty huge deal. Throw in the high hopes that there's still room for shortstop Jeremy Peña to improve -- postseason heroics aside, a .289 OBP last year wasn't strong -- and really, the only concern here right now aside from a few weeks without Altuve and some minor pitching depth questions is Yordan Alvarez's hand, which has hindered him all spring. We acknowledge this and say: The Astros are always good. They will continue to be good.

So if your the Nats or A's, just put $2M on yourself, buy a bunch of players and win it all. The bet covers your payroll with enough left over to win the Ohtani sweepstakes

This is pretty good... the last line is unnecessary, but it's pretty good.

And now I'm rooting for Vogelbach to steal a base this year.

That is kind of genius, but then again, if you could just buy a title then the Padres and Mets would both win one in 2023.

Am I the only one that read that as 1 home run and 58 minutes? It took me a moment to figure it out.
