Johnny Edwards was the Astros catcher during my early years as a fan. And I used to think of him as light hitting, but I just compared his career numbers to our current catcher. My apologies to you Mr. Edwards.
Pena drew more walks in his early stops at single A before trailing off in AAA and the show. Worth noting I think that Springer played in 60% more minor league games before getting called up compared to Pena. It was mentioned many times that he only played in 30 games above A ball before starting at SS for the Astros. Pena definitely needs to work on his walk rate, but maybe we can hope part of his low walk rate can be attributed to inexperience and not getting to refine his plate approach at the normal developmental level?Farmer1906 said:I like the thought process. Springer never hit for a ton of avg, but has pop, has speed, & had a K problem early in his career. BUT Springer was always good at drawing walks. He's been north of 10% BB% every single season until last year when he hit 9.3%. Pena was only at 3.9% which is not even half of the league average.redline248 said:Springer's lowest OBP in a season was .336 as a rookie. Pena's was .289. I'll throw this out for the stat gurus...How far apart are Pena and George's numbers?
IIRC George wasn't a prototype high OBP guy but managed alright in the leadoff spot.
I'm probably wrong but I kinda think they're pretty similar. You give up some OBP but you get a bit more pop in the leadoff spot.
Thanks, it's a lot of fun starting my days with some sports writing because a lot of the other stuff I do is a little on the snoozy side at times. #6 is kind of a yawner, but #1-#5 is all gas no brakes to get to Opening Day!McInnis said:

Its like topgolf for baseball, I guess. I don't think hitting a baseball translates to hitting a golf ball. I agree. Lots of pain physically and emotionally after going there.ttha_aggie_09 said:Baseball lovers, get ready.

How I have just heard about this? This is going to be awesome and I'm probably going to throw out my back hitting a 62 mph dribbler.

Kyle Tucker said he has a minor sprain of right ankle, which he suffered against Venezuela in the WBC. He rolled his ankle on the base going to second.

"I was out there jogging around & hitting & stuff today, "he said. "I'll probably be good next couple days."
The plan is for Yordan Alvarez to play five innings and/or take three at-bats. Dusty Baker said he probably won't play in the major league Grapefruit League game tomorrow, but could get some at-bats in a minor league game on the back fields.

"It’s relatively the same. The crowd is probably just as loud and into the game as the playoffs are ... Atmosphere and noise-wise, it was probably roughly the same.”
Tucker said he wants to play again in 2026
