Our AAA rotation to start the year is looking juicy. Blanco, Whitley, Bielak and Jayden Murray (who is having a fantastic spring). Lots of good competition to earn spot starts with the big club if/when they arise.

Velo is down, but it makes sense going from max effort to trying last multiple innings. A ton of whiff on that slider. I would imagine righties can't touch it.

+1 on having a strong AAA rotation.

And he could have as easily injured himself in a spring training game. I guess there would not have been a celebration but all the were doing was jumping up & down in a huddle. Seems to me it might have been an injury ready to happen down the road.

This is surprising...I get national pride and I know in Latin countries it holds more weight but c'mon.

The WBC is only what 15 years old and happens every what 4 years?

You means these guys grow up dreaming of playing in the WBC and not the WS? They play in streets of the DR pretending they're in the WBC and not the WS?

Bet it's a different answer for guys who've played in WS as opposed to those who haven't. It's a lot harder and a lot more work to get to a WS rather than a WBC.

I think those guys grow up dreaming of being a professional player that kids in their country idolize the way they idolized the players of their youth. In the WBC they get to do that while also wearing the name of their country across the front of their jersey.

well there was that one float at the parade with all the Dominicans on it and they seemed really excited to wave the DR flag for the duration and length of the parade

so I buy it

that PR DR game was tense and fun to watch. their pitchers were going for it.

Maybe they didn't grow up watching the WS? Like if an American player goes and plays in Japan, winning that title is cool but to somebody not from there or not as familiar with the history it doesn't mean as much.

The WBC is essentially the Olympics for baseball. So for international players, I'm guessing it means more. Especially if you're a younger player who's grown up with the WBC.
