Does anyone remember what the length of that Pujols bomb was? I wonder how it compared to Yordon's in game 6.
the internet says 455 feet. Watching on TV that night, I'm pretty sure it landed in League City, though.

MLB's website says Yordan's was the second-longest WS home run in Statcast history

Are there any Astros you love so much you would happily accept their played in pants right off their sweaty arse?

I saw that yesterday. Literally that most bizarre thing I have ever seen a player do. Naturally it was a Citeh player and fan.

I have to say, when you hit one on the screws you knew it. You could feel it in your hands.

Meh. It's Citeh. They are the NY Mets of Soccer. Late to the party and spend an ungodly amount of money every year to buy every player they can.

Everything I look up referenced wooden golf clubs and the screwed on metal face plates. Supposedly the area between the screws in the middle was the sweat spot and so baseball and cricket use the term for hitting it in the sweat spot.

So it's not surprising those of us that played ball our entire life wouldn't know an obscure golf reference that was stolen. And I played in a wood bat league.

100 percent

in that situation, to hit it that hard to that part of the park

the Pujols HR is a footnote in comparison

that demon has been fully exorcised

I'd love more clarification on the projected HR distances.

Is it the distance where the ball stopped traveling (hit the batter's eye, hit the rafter, was caught by a fan, etc)?

Or is it the projected distance it would've traveled if it wouldn't have hit whatever stopped it?

If it's the former then I can see 450 ft. If it's the latter then there's absolutely no way in hell that ball would've only traveled 450 ft.

The length of the Pujols homer isn't what sticks with me, it was the sound it made as it hit the glass and the air came out of the stadium. Thankfully Roy O didn't let that kill our season.

It's a projection on where the ball would land at field level.

Per statcast there have been 7 balls hit 113 EV (Yordan 112.5) with a 27 LA. The Avg distance is 444.

Here is one he hit 454 in 2019 just to the right.

So loud to dead quiet. I was sitting in CF and I swear I heard every footstep around the bases.

Another reason to be thankful for our current Astros.

Here's our wheeling and dealing in the 1992 offseason.

1992 - Houston signs outfielder Pete Incaviglia and reliever Doug Jones as free agents. Jones would become the club MVP that season, leading the team with 11 wins and 36 saves with a 1.85 ERA. He either won or saved over half of Houston's victories that year. Incaviglia wasn't too bad either, hitting .266 with 11 homers in part-time duty while tying the club record with seven RBIs in a game against the Giants.

Next obscure reference!

Without looking it up, where did the term "balls to the wall" originate from?

I feel like that came from playing wall ball. If you really went all out, then you would end up making some errors. This ended with you being "balls to the wall" with someone trying to peg you. If you played it safe, you never had to get against the wall.
Just my wild ass guess.

Edit: looked it up after. The real version makes sense, but I like mine better.

I had a persimmon 3 wood that I would use off of the tee. Loved hitting that thing pure and I was consistent with it. Of course, everyone else at the time was getting their new Big Berthas.

I had a full set of persimmons I learned to lay with and used for about 10 years before the first metals came out. They were so small and unforgiving compared to the berthas. Today you can miss hit a ball and carry it straight for 250 or more. Back then if you were a little off that ball was flying who the hell knew where.

Irons were the same way. None of this cavity backed perimeter weighted stuff. My first set were Hogan blades. Unforgiving is being kind. And no fancy alien looking putter. A good old pure 8802.

TexAgs goals for Pena in 2023

No errors
Win MVP unless another Astro wins MVP first
Extrapolation of 2022 post-season #s over a full season, which means at least:

149 runs scored
249 hits
37 home runs
100 RBi
minimum batting average of .345
minimum OPS of 1.005

No pressure.

My favorite all-time stat about the Cubs is that in 1962, the expansion Colt 45s went 64-96 with a roster full of rookies and past-their-prime rentals.

In that same season, the Cubs, in their 59th year as a franchise, went 59-103 with a roster featuring four future Hall-of-Famers.

had to look it up...

Ernie Banks (with 512 career HR's) had an OPS of .588 in the Astrodome.

only hit 3 HR's in 169 plate appearances on Kirby & Fannin.

granted it was the last 1/3 of his career, but the dome took no prisoners

Arraez would be an awesome Astro. Obviously, he wouldn't start in our INF but he could start 3x a week backing everyone up and be the ultimate insurance.

and apparently it was so hot one day at Colt stadium that Ernie "Let's play two" Banks had to be carried off on a stretcher after he collapsed.

On the field the sweat spot and sweet spot are completely different.
Off the field they could be the same.
