Is there a better example of JAG who etched his name in history with one brilliant game? I can't think of one. Finished his career with a record of 81-91. That includes his second season in 1954. He went 3-21 with Baltimore.

Mike Fiers with 2 no hitters. Seriously. 2 of them and he can't even stay with some random south of the border beer league.

homer bailey, turned 2 no hitters into a $100 million contract,, in the big leagues for 14 years somehow, 81-86 career record

These kinds of things are pretty interesting to discuss. Bailey spent most of his time in Cincinnati, I think? Were they ever any good during that time? An almost career .500 pitcher isn't exactly terrible. The contract, though, those can always be argued against.

Yeah, Fiers and Baily with two no-hitters are good examples of guys having short bursts of brilliance although they can't touch Johnny Vander Meer. Ironically Vander Meer's two consecutive no hitters allowed him to retire with a career record exactly two games over .500.

But Larsen did it in one game. And the fame it brought him far surpasses the others.

But I'll say this for Fiers. His actions in one single day ensured that he'll never be forgotten by anyone here.

You are right, dyslexia got me again. But that makes all the more strange this guy holding the one MLB record that will surely never be broken.

When I moved here in 2017 I just told everyone I was already coming from being a fan of another beat down sports town. Then the Astros won two World Series.

The real parallel between here and Houston is it's real crazy about hockey and the Wild are consistently mediocre. Swap hockey for football for Houston. Football is king in Texas (despite how the posters in this thread feel) and the Texans are equally disappointing.

I wonder where we are on the Beane Count (K-BB) both offensively and for pitching.

Astros are behind NYY and LAD for 2022 Beane Count. The A's are dead last in AL

That's Neyer's made up Beane Count. I believe the original Beane Count that Beane used was K-BB. In 2022 we were #1 offensively (lowest difference) and #2 defensively (2nd highest) behind the Mets.

I've been reading about the push for MLB expansion, especially with the support to get Nashville a team. That got me thinking about realignment.

Plus, I am bored.

I have seen a few plans out there. Manfred had said MLB wants to expand, but he wants to get situations with Tampa and Island worked out first.

What do you all think works for realignment? Here are my proposed divisions. I'd like to hear others.

NL East
Mets
Phillies
Pirates
Expos (assuming Montreal gets the Rays or an expansion)

NL North
Cubs
Brewers
Reds
Cards

NL South
Braves
Marlins
Nats
Charlotte (if MTL gets the Rays, this would be the expansion team. If MTL gets the expansion team, this works if the Rays move our stay put)

NL West
Dodgers
Giants
Diamondbacks
Padres

AL East
Yankees
Red Sox
Orioles
Jays

AL North
Twins
White Sox
Tigers
Indians

AL South
Astros
Rangers
Royals
Nashville (expansion)

AL West
Angels
Mariners
Rockies
A's (Vegas)

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

There's no way the Rockies would trade their ticket revenue when the Dodgers, Padres, and Giants come to town for the A's and Mariners.

Also you can pencil the Astros and Braves in for the next 50 division championships.

I just noticed the Twins home opener is with the Astros this year.

When the Twins come to Houston, would really love our PA guy to do the starting lineups and say "Batting third, the shortstop, former Giants and Mets legend, Carlos Correa!"

I would love to see the Astros back on this list with Javier & McCullers or Framber.

Javier's insane K rate will get him over 200 if he goes 155ish innings. He almost did it last year in 148.2 IP.

Framber fell short of 200 even with 200 IP. I think this is more about how Framber pitchers to contact to get more length. If he wanted to, he could probably get a ton more strikeouts by sacrificing innings and giving up more walks. You can see it in the playoffs when his k/9 jumps from 8.7 (career & in 2022) to 11.9 in the 2022 postseason.

McCullers needs to stay healthy for an entire year. Big ask, but if he gets to the 180ish IP mark, he'll have a good chance at being at 200.

Speaking of Framber, any concern with the shift going away and being a ground ball pitcher? Might give up some more hits, which isn't necessarily going to impact him, but who knows?
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Yes and no. There will still be plenty of shifting done. It just won't look the same. I think it'll hurt ground ball pitchers but it won't be crazy.

While I agree with you about football in Texas in general, fan support in Houston for the Texans has greatly dwindled in recent years due to incompetence, which is putting it lightly, from the front office.

Delusional Texans fans will still brag about how much bigger their hypothetical Super Bowl parade would be than World Series ones which have actually happened. It's a strange point to argue, but that's what the dumpster fire on Kirby has come to I guess.
