Wow

Seems like a great deal for MIN. Actually worked out pretty nice for them.

Now I can't wait for that awkward press conference.

MIN has Cohen to thank.

Still think what the Mets did was underhanded. I get why they did it as far as money goes, but they really screwed Carlos out of a lot of money.

So much for the "missing piece". Can't imagine sending 400 M only to make the wild card again.

I don't think that was a valid offer. Randy Mcllvoy reported it but I think he was just speculating because no one else picked it up.
You are likely right on this. He may have gotten bad info from a source.

I bet Carlos' wife is PISSED right now

I was really looking forward to the Astros beating the Mets in the World Series, too.

I bet Boras is pissed right now. With all the finagling he did to try and get the most commission possible from a CC deal

When did the Astros offer the 5 year, 160? Was it 1 year ago or 2? If 2, Correa would potentially have been able to cash in again in 3 years. Probably not going to be able to at the expiration of this contract.

I loved Kevin Bass. He was Derek Bell without the attitude!
I remember him doing the Astros starting lineup on a Saturday Game of the Week as Sammy Davis Jr. He was fantastic.

I know none of this was foreseen but Carlos has to be pissed that he opted out of that MIN deal he was on.

He'd be making more money per year and have the opt outs after each year.

Crazy deal to come tucking tail back to the GF you just dumped.

Maybe Scott Boras will have his reputation damaged from this. (fingers crossed)

Honest question, when his career is over, will you remember Correa more as a Giant or as a Met?

wow, even Boras couldn't save Correa's mega-contract --- that is a surprise

So he's going to MIN for $1.33M more AAV than we offered.

If you don't factor in inflation, which is running at 8%+ per year.

Carlos is about to join the Dallas Keuchel club.

It's funny we look at it that way. 6/200 is a huge. Its a long way from 13/350, but It's a year shorter and 37 M more than the largest contract in Astros history.

I mean, the Giants started the whole thing, but there's just something about the Mets thinking they knew something that the Giants didn't and being wrong.

I'm sure we'll figure out somewhere later down the line, but I'm curious exactly what popped up in his physical twice - it seems like it has to be the ankle not healing properly.... but the Giants GM is a former Astro, right? He would know the details of the surgery and healing.

I don't think they are not worried that it did not heal properly. There would already be issues with that. I think it has to do with the pins and such potentially wearing out over time and needing to be replaced and then not knowing what kind of player he will be after that. I am sure it was all about insuring the contract in the later years and they could not get the coverage to protect themselves that far down the road.

The Mets maybe thought they could get it done and were not able to as well in the later part of the contract. I bet we start seeing this more and more.

So are we just one "Twins getting cold feet" away from Carlos coming back here?

Although I'd bet we see angry MVP-level chip on his shoulder Carlos this season...

For at least 105 games or until the Twins are out of contention and they shut him down. Whichever comes first.

CC's been so busy in SF and NYC that he's coming back to the Twin Cities unaware he's no longer top dog on that offense.

The insurance angle may be part of it, but I really believe Cohen saw it as an opportunity to take all the leverage away from Carlos and try to get him on the cheap. Look at what is reported they ended up offering and what the Twins deal is. He's making $46M more with the Twins.

Given Cohen's business practices, he knew exactly what he was doing and ended up costing Carlos a ton of money.

Now that CC isn't a Met, did they get better?

Impactful Incoming
SP Verlander
SP Senga
SP Quintana
RP Raley
RP Robertson

Impactful Outgoing
SP deGrom
SP Bassit
SP Walker
RP Lugo
RP Givens
1B/OF Smith
OF Naquin

They basically made some somewhat even free agent signings/trades then paid a bunch of their guys to come back more money (Diaz, Nimmo, Ottavino)

I'd say minimally better. Their rotation is upgraded with JV and Senga. Quintana seems like he's JAG.

I think I agree. The bullpen is probably a little better too. But it's not unrealistic to say deGrom outperforms JV and Bassit outperforms Senga.

Whatever it takes to get him 150 starts. It was agonizing watching him struggle to only 160 strikeouts last year.

I kinda wish CC would have signed with an NL East or NL West team for that deal just to be a thorn in the Giants and Mets side.
Knock on wood, but I'm happy Carlos is ensconced a team without many weapons as opposed to a super team built on the back of unlimited funds - like Cohen is trying to do with the Mets.

It makes it easier to root for him without it being at our expense.

Edit - I misread that post. Yeah, I'd be happy for him to be on another team in the NL, as long as it wasn't one of elite ones.

I think JV regresses. Senga should do well. I think deGrom, if he remains healthy -- and that's a big IF -- should outperform JV. Also, Bassitt has a chance to be better, especially if he returns to his AL form in the AL.

Has anyone created a baseball podcast yet called "pending physical"? If not I feel like it's coming.
Harry Dunne

Its true he does not play a very aesthetic brand of baseball, but I think he will be worth $1 yr/$11 million to a team like the Twins.
