Find it hard to believe. JV likes to get paid more than he likes to win if so.
He probably also likes the 6-7 extra starts per year he'll get in a 5 man rotation vs 6 as far as the counting stats go. Chasing down 300 isn't going to be easy.
He hasn't exactly been finishing strong the past few postseasons.

The Astros have emerged as a potential suitor for Sean Murphy, per source. Houston currently has Martin Maldonado as its catcher and has been connected to free agent Willson Contreras. Murphy, a former Gold Glove winner, is under club control through 2025.

regarding the catching situation...
it's starting to feel like Machete is semi-being thrown under the bus by the front office.

It's definitely not the hitting part. He was worse at the plate in 2021 and we were happy to roll with him in 2022.

If the price is right, this is a good alternative to Contreras.
I just don't know if the price is right. The A's have a stacked roster of prostpects at Catcher which is why they are probably willing to part with him for prospects elsewhere.
