But "can he help us win" is a fair question. It's been a long time since he's been able to hit and it's not entirely clear what his role would be with the 2023 Astros.

Agreed. His window of being good was during a time when cheating was going on everywhere and the balls were juiced. Since then he's taken a nosedive.

I'll take his ceiling and versatility (place high-level CF, corner OF, and 1B) over someone with a lower ceiling and less versatility whom many want.

My feelings on Yuli vs Beli as our "daily rover" are kinda mixed.

Over the 162, I'd rather give Beli a shot. Ceiling is tantalizing if we can work with him on some adjustments (granted the Dodgers are probably the second smartest team in baseball and they couldn't help him). No shift will be a positive. Pitchers make more mistakes in the regular season to help him with stat padding.

In the games that count, I'd take Yuli. At least he can still hit situationally off good pitchers. When I think of Beli in the playoffs, all I think of are his hips flying open on a back leg slider and his long loopy swing missing the ball by a good foot or two. He's too easy for good pitchers to swing and miss him.

The CF aspect is a bonus, but we already have a capable CF (Chas). And I know this take will be strongly opposed on this thread, but I'd rather give Jake the additional CF reps over a guy like Beli.

in unrelated player news I wish the Astros media team would make better videos for YouTube. I've been watching Red Sox stuff today at working and their media team puts out quality stuff....(I got sucked into it by watch a Pedroia piece)

He will not cost much. His ceiling is high.

If he sucks, you designate him for assignment.

If the core players who were on that team are OK with him that's good enough for me and you know they have solicited their feedback already.

Bregs and Tuve would put vag cream in Cody's locker daily.

Could actually be fun now that I think about it more.

Bellinger is a big reason the Dodgers have underperformed in the playoffs since he's been with them.

In post season he has 242 ABs with a BA of .211 and 9 home runs. In WS games he's even been worse. 66 ABs with a .121 average and 2 home runs.

It's fun being an Astros fan not just because they win but because they're a bunch of good guys. He doesn't seem like he fits into that category.

That's the thing. If he was decent then I could probably put aside the BS (a la Osuna) but it just doesn't make sense on the baseball side.

He's not good and the talent level on this club is too high.

Seems more a fit of a team like Texas who can test him out and see if he gets right then flip him at the deadline. We're past that stage.

Look man, you can only have so many nerds in baseball, or sports in general. Analytics are fun practical at times but it's hard for some of the players and coaches to deal with or communicate with guys who only played on the church volleyball team. There has to be some balance and that why guys like Billy Bean still got a lot of respect.

It would be just like when Springer went to the Blue Jays, Correa to the Twins, etc. "We sat down and talked through some things and had a good conversation, got each others side of the story and we're in a good place now, that's behind him/us and we're just ready to win some games"
