The more I read comments like Ben Verlander's talking about Betts and the Red Sox and their cheating escapades, the more it infuriates me that Manred buried the Astros as cover for other higher-profile teams'
cheating. Just total BS that the report was not made public.

I've been furious about this for years now. It's that same national media bias for the East/West coast teams, and the Boston/NY teams in particular. The MLB version of the "blue blood" program bias that A&M teams have to fight.

Gallo is a selfish, loser of a major league player. Literally refuses to adapt to situational hitting. thus putting himself before the team. Can't think of a worse free agent option. Hope the Jankees sign him
How on earth did this get 14 stars?

He does what is most effective for him. Just like Tucker, Altuve, Alvarez, and pretty much every player in baseball. Just because he doesn't have bat control like Ichiro doesn't make him selfish.

I will say he was asked about changing his philosophy at all and he said we would never. Not saying that is selfish. I understand wanting to stick with what has brought you success.

And it's not about having bat control like Ichiro. It's just about making contact, which is what the Astros have valued, and he doesn't do that enough.

Are you telling me you're good with a guy, on this Astros team that gets lots of base runners on, when they have a guy at 3rd with 1 out in the 8th inning and all they need is a sac fly to tie or lead, you're comfortable with Gallo at the plate?

Gallo has 3 in his career. The Astros had 5 guys with 3 or more sacrifice flies this season alone!

You talk about wanting every edge you can get, Farmer and between the 5 guys, they had 28 sacrifice flies this month, which is 28 RBI this season. Our run diff was +219. That 28 RBI is 10% of the run diff.

So yeah, he's doing what is most effective for him just like the guys on the Astros, but I don't think what he does is most effective for the team.

If any heavily shifted power hitter to change their approach from a slugger to someone who just goes the opposite way, the defense wins. The defense wants to remove the XBH.

If the option is to have someone who can be a timely hitter and not K, that is always favorable over the not. But that is not who Gallo is. He's valuable because he can hit the piss out of the baseball and draw walks. I think its strange that he's judged on his ability to hit a sac fly. When has anyone ever evaluated a player based on that with a huge emphasis? Do we think he's trying to avoid sack flys? He's got one of the highest fly ball rates and hard-hit rates in baseball.

My point is that he has been a good player. He may be a good player again. He would be down my list of ideal LFers, but the way people talk about it on here as if he's worse than Dubon offensively.

You've got more holes in your argument than Gallo has holes in his swing. We'll see how many teams go after him and who. ends up with him and at what price. That'll be very telling.

I don't think anyone is actually evaluating Gallo based on sac flies...it's just a fun fact to laugh about. He gets evaluated on his inability to put the ball in play. His OPS+ has dropped significantly since 2019. He was between Yuli and Maldonado this year. Walks way down (only 56 in 126 games in '22). K's way up. 43% of ABs in '21, 47% in '22. Why would anyone suspect these trends are going to reverse?

You mentioned earlier that the removal of the shift likely results in more hits for him. Well, if they are just a few more singles and the occasional double, how is that different than going the other way against the shift once in a while? It still isn't doing that much damage.

oh, and if he could be gotten for suuuuuuuuuuuuuuper cheap...maybe you take a flyer as an off the bench, reserve guy.

Well Dubon had one more sac fly last season than Joey has had in his entire career.

I for one am not entirely against the 'Stros going after Gallo if he can be signed for a very reasonable price and even then I hope he can somehow be developed into something other than a three outcome hitter.

Is this site legit? Look nice and a great price

Definitely China knockoff

Who really cares if you get it though. The real ones are made in china too. Probably the same factory.

All depends on the quality. I've seen the knock offs next to an authentic one and the differences are quite obvious just warning those who are unaware

I still rock my jersey that I got in Korea in 2016. $20 USD. Stitched and everything. Should have gotten a couple more

He's obviously not worse than Dubon offensively.

I'm not judging him solely on sac flies, but you don't think it's a bit concerning that a guy with a high fly ball rate doesn't have more career sac flies?

He has been a fine offensive player, but may he could be better if he was open to changing is approach some, especially as his power begins to fade. I don't like the fact he's not. Altuve has showing a willingness to change and has added even more value to his career.

The largest fact for me is if you sign him, you still have to sign another LFer. Not only that, how many ABs would he take away from Chas, who has shown continuous improvement year over year? At this point, I'd rather give Chas the most opportunity this season to become the primary CFer.

I don't absolutely hate signing if they do it, I just think it's against the players the Astros like and maybe marginally helps the offense.

I do love his arm in the outfield though!!

I'll say it. That is selfish and anti-team. It may work out for him this upcoming year, but that will only be because the league is forcibly handicapping teams from playing the most effective defense against stubbornly unprofessional hitters like him.

I ordered some space city youth jerseys for my kids off DH gate from a highly rated store there. If they come in and look good I will probably get one for myself. That's probably what that site is doing as well . Tons of stuff made in China but that doesn't mean it's all bad.

Stopped by the MMP store today looking for two things…kids Space City uniforms and an adult blue alternate uniform for me.

Adult blue alternate uniforms? Only 3XL and 4XL. Plenty of white unis with the WS Champ patch.

If he turns into a soft contact hitter that goes the out her way, brings his average up to .250, and then slugs for .350. He'll be a team guy who's out of baseball in a year.

If thats the case (and I doubt it because the league is has plenty of plus-defense, mediocre .250 soft-contact hitters, albeit maybe nonstarters), then--and I cannot stress this enough--he should never made the show in the first place!

Probably not, but his career shows what good those metrics are for his team in and of themselves. Like I said, it might just turn around for him (and several others) this year, but that's not because they got better. The league is going to handicap the defense.

We disagree. That's fine. But I'm done responding on this topic. I stand by my (and others') assertion that he is selfish, anti-team, and unprofessional. Really surprised you're apparently ready to die on this hill.
