I like Cintron

Seems like a competent coach and relates really well to Hispanic players. That story about him and Yordan making a slight adjustment prior to GM 6 is awesome.

Plus I like that he's got some cajones as evidenced by not taking shlt from Laureno and taking his suspension.

I think these tweets are all fake. We have no GM and the team is in disarray.

Cody having to play with Springer would be hilarious...

Worst cheater in baseball history?

Alek Manoah: Gerrit Cole. He cheated. He used a lot of sticky stuff to make his pitches better.

had to look up when the Blue Jays will be at Yankee Stadium next...and sure enough Toronto will play at NYY in April.

then I noticed that the Yankees will open the season with 16 of their first 22 games at home. Gee, that's nice.

also wonder why cold weather teams are playing so many home games in April -- they should be on the road

How do people find out where he's going before he shows up? Goodness. Can't imagine he checked in under his real name.

Agents

What better way to make the Yankees sweat than blasting it out that's he's in SF.

And my emoticon is for the agents and their tactics...Not your post

Interesting that Pete Putila's first big act as SF GM could be signing Judge for eleventy billion dollars…seems quite contrary to everything the Astros did while he was here.

That's not on him. He reports to a President of Baseball Operations and an owner group that wants to sign Judge as the home town kid. Just like Crane, some moves are above your pay grade.

it would be nice to see Judge tucked away in San Francisco.

the Giants' roster still needs a lot of work to be better than the Dodgers' or Padres'

Tucked away??

He's been a free out for us in the playoffs for years now.

Could be a cheap option at first with surprisingly good numbers.

Seems like it

I'm guessing all the younger ones are locked up long term?

Old. Or bad in the case of Bellinger.

Free agents are usually 30+ anyway. 1st base is where again hitters go to stay in the league. If you go 1 year on an old guy you can look at FA next year with Hoskins, Cron, & Choi. They're not young exactly. The only young guy that might hit the market is Vlad Jr in 2026. He'll only be 27, I think. I would guess TOR locks him up to a long term deal before that.

This would be Bregman too if not for the 2 year extension. Now he'll hit the market at 31 and not 29. Devers is still getting their extra early (like Correa).

Another utility guy who can't hit well? It has to be an organizational depth move.

It's minor league deal with an invite to camp.

Wouldn't look much into it.

ESPN predicts FA

Verlander

Quote:

McDaniel: Houston Astros, two years, $87 million. The change here is Jim Crane being in charge and he did this deal last year. I assume Verlander's reps can get Crane to agree to the Scherzer AAV ($43.3M) or something close to it and the question is if it's a two- or three-year deal and/or is there an opt-out?

Doolittle: Astros, three years, $126 million. Verlander has flourished with the Astros, whose window of contention remains wide open, and it feels to me like he's hitting the market mostly to establish his value.

Schoenfield: Dodgers, two years, $80 million. Astros or Dodgers makes the most sense, but the Astros can survive without Verlander in their rotation and spend that money elsewhere. Verlander replaces the departed Tyler Anderson and goes to a team where he can win a lot of games and continue his pursuit of 300 wins.

Rogers: Dodgers, two years, $83 million. I really wanted to pick the Rangers but Verlander will end up where the playoffs are a sure thing. Houston has so much pitching, they'll pass on tying up that kind of money even if it's just for two years. Los Angeles, on the other hand, needs to assure itself of October success. Verlander can help with that, finally having proved he can dominate in the World Series. It seems like a perfect fit.

Lee: Astros, two years, $90 million. Verlander should be trying to get a deal that exceeds Scherzer's contract with the Mets and after the Astros won the World Series and Verlander won a Cy Young, I think the two sides will have a hard time parting ways.

Olney: Rangers, three years, $130 million.

Gonzalez: Rangers, three years, $120 million. The Rangers have money to spend and holes to fill in their rotation. Verlander is the perfect guy for this moment in time. But he'll have to be enticed to join a division rival that is not certain to compete, so I envision a three-year deal made up of player options. The Astros have too much internal pitching to want to match something like that.

If they offer 3/120 fully guaranteed while Houston, LA, etc offer 2/75 M with the 2nd year being a vesting player option, why wouldn't he sign with them? They're going to have to come over the top, but they might if they can't land deGrom, Rodon, and maybe Bassit/Eovaldi.

In today's world? I think you have to say yes or be canceled.

What I laid out is a plausible situation tho. They're desperate. Did you not see what they paid Seager and Semien? No one predicted that.
