The doubleheader sweep right after the all-star game broke their souls this past season
Absolutely, and it didn't help they all chanted F Altuve as he made them their *****. We got into their heads the same way the Braves did us back in the 90's and we knew we would never get over the hump (back then).

If this tweet was all you knew of Chris Carter, you would think he was a right handed Yordan

With our current pitching staff, probably Judge. With Yordan protecting him he might hit 70.

JV because it will be a 2 year deal, not 7 to 9.

Sept of 2015, he saved our season. 6 HR and a 1.222 OPS while everyone else slumped.

I am having mild PTSD. That Sept was so bad. Arlington wrecked us and took the division.

Judge not being unanimous is pretty ridiculous

The two LA voters felt Ohtani was a better selection.

Angels beat writer Sam Blum, of The Athletic, and L.A.-based Associated Press writer Greg Beacham were the only two voters to pick Ohtani.

I went to every game of that 4 game series in September. Pretty sure we were up 2.5 games in the division and finished the series down 2.5 games. That was such a beating

Are we seriously considering bringing Judge in? I didn't think his salary would be one the Astros would look at

It's interesting to consider Judge, but there is absolutely no way Crane is going to give out a contract like that.

I would not be so definitive about any player at this point. The person making the decisions isn't a dispassionate GM but it's now more directly an owner and every owner that does this gets an emotional attachment to a player and they have an emotional attachment to their money. And next you know they are making decisions with their hearts.

Crane has an emotional attachment to JV. I think that's clear. And it may well cloud his judgement into making a decision that is not the best baseball decision. It's his money. I won't begrudge him that choice. But that rarely ends well.

If he decides he feels that way about Yuli then Yuli is coming back regardless of consequences. It's true for any player.

Those two idiots should have their voter rights revoked. When your team finishes 33 games out of first place nobody on your team should be considered for the award.

So ultimate off-season topic that doesn't matter but I'm curious about.
We've seen in recent years a team that "wins their division" but then a division rival advances further than them in the playoffs. (Even sometimes eliminating the division champ)

Examples
2005: Cardinals / Astros
2019: Braves / Nationals
2020: A's / Astros
2021: Giants / Dodgers
2022: Braves / Phillies

The list goes on and on the further you go back. My question is, if you win the division title but get passed by a division rival in the playoffs, can you even celebrate that accomplishment at the end of the year?

At the end of the day it's still a division title so you can celebrate it but it will ring hollow, as it should.

That was in reference to the question about Judge. The only attachment we have to Judge is regularly ending his season.

You celebrate division titles.

It's a LONG season and winning the division is an accomplishment no matter what happens in the playoffs.

It's almost unfair how cheap our talent is.

Not one of Framber, Tucker, Javier, Urquidy, Stanek projected to make more than $7.5mm

And that doesn't include guys like Pena, Abreu and Luis who aren't arb eligible.

Astros have shown the desire to buy out years of arbitration to extend the year free agency hits for star players (Bregman, Lance, Yordan).

How would you prioritize the following players for buyout and extend deals? Let's say you could only afford to do 2 deals this year?

And what would you do if you didn't address any of those players this year but you did after next season?

Tucker (3 years of arbitration left)
Framber (3 years of arb)
Javier (3 years of arb)
Urquidy (3 years of arb)
Luis (4 years - 1 of pre arb, 3 of arb)
Pena (5 plus years - 2 of pre arb, at least 3 of arb)

I'm in the camp that thinks Ohtani should've won. He was elite at the plate and on the mound. But BBWAA has been messed up for a long time in voting. It's nothing new.

In 2000, Todd Helton led MLB in RBI, BA, SLG, and OPS, and led the NL in WAR, H, and OBP, while playing Gold Glove 1B, and received 0 1st place votes.

The system has sucked for awhile.

Then they need to update the award to saying MVP of a first place team only
