Click was run out because he wanted to settle for (checks notes) Jake Meyers in CF and deal a controllable starter in Urquidy for a Contreras rental.

That would be the pitch - hey Aaron, you and the best player in the game, Yordan, in the same lineup for the rest of the decade.

Hmm, a Gold Glove RF, a CF that made a five star catch to help seal a WS game and a LF that had a hose that had gotten several runners at the plate and that OF is not in the top 10. This list is sad. The Angels are on the list and their OF other than Trout is pedestrian.

That list is rather bipolar.

Let's make a list of best outfields. The main criteria? How about defense. Jo Adell and Kyle Schwarber are great additions! How about offense? Cody Bellinger.

I mean they even list a team in the Phillies with a RFer who may never play in the OF ever again in Harper.

Tucker alone should get us into the top 10. The fact Yordan spend 1/3 of his time in LF should move us to the top 7. Add in Chazzyfizz behind solid AF and you have a top 5 OF. If we can re-sign a healthy Brantley or go get Conforto then its top 3.

lolololol at the Mets being #1 when #3 has Soto & Tatis. Those two alone is enough to be #1.

Who the hell gave Cole a 5th place vote? I'm not sure he was even a top 10 starter this year. I would have voted for Javier over him.
Found a good reddit post on Javier.

Quote:

Javier should have gotten a vote or two this year imo, the top 5 cutoff for ballots maybe knocks him off, and the fact that he finished 2 starts short of qualifying is the nail in the coffin.

However, he led:
  • Gausman, Framber, Bieber and Cole in bWAR
  • Everyone other than Ohtani in K/9 and K%
  • Cole, Gausman, Framber, and Bieber in ERA
  • Ohtani, Cole, Cease, Gausman, Framber, Manoah, and Bieber in WHIP
  • Cortes and Manoah in xFIP
  • Cease, Cortes, and Manoah in SIERA
  • All candidates in H/9
  • Framber, Gausman, and Cole in WPA
  • Gausman and Cole in RE24

Honestly I have no issue with him being left off, but I don't think Cortes, Gausman, or Cole should have gotten votes while both Javier and McKenzie were left off, that really feels mostly like it's due to their ages.

It feels like JV is fishing for $ and once verified Crane will match whatever the best offer is

imo I would let him walk, insert Brown into the rotation, and roll with Framber, Javier, Lance, Urquidy, Garcia, and Brown. Focus that money you are saving on Brantley, Yuli, Tucker extension, and Abreu at first. That team would absolutely fu**

Id bring back Yuli on a cheap team friendly deal as a backup at 1b or DH. Same goes with Brantley. Backup left fielder and potential DH.

What reason would you sign Yuli over someone like Diaz to be your bench guy?

Diaz plays more positions, plays them at a higher level, was better offensively, is younger, and won't cost a lot.

Honestly, good point, and I am not against that either. I have a little recency bias against Diaz for laying an egg in the playoffs.

Looking at the Yankees payroll after Rizzo, they're sitting at 207-215 depending on where you look. Add in Judge's monster deal at ~35 M and they're going to crush the luxury tax. It's more like they're "running it back" than getting any better. And maybe they stay healthier, but the odds Judge comes close to 2022 are slim.

And Yuli is nails in the postseason minus the 2020 campaign.

Not saying your wrong

But Yuli brings more to the locker room as a leader, tone setter, Cuban (Cuban royalty at that) who's been around the block.

I think Yuli's intangibles are severely underrated and often overlooked.

They sign Judge and they have no room for an elite starting pitcher.

So to summarize Verlander's Astros career of 3.5 seasons

- 2 WS titles
- 2x Cy Young
- 3x All Star
- 3 pennants
- ALCS MVP
- No Hitter

I guess that's not terrible

Updated for no no and ALCS
The part left off, 6 innings in 20/21 at $66 million, is what gives a lot of people heartburn when thinking about giving him a huge deal at his age. But as shown, he has been nothing short of amazing in the 3.5 seasons here. After watching him this year, I tend to think the odds of boom for 2 years are better than bust but I don't know what $ number Crane will put on it when we have a great returning pitching staff and money to get another mid tier starter if we want to get greedy.

Judge puts them, I would guess, around 240. Their bill would be 20% of the overage or 1.4 M.

If they want to sign JV @ 2/80 then their payroll shoots to 280 and their bill is 20% plus 42.5% surcharge. If I am reading this right that means a tax bill of 29.375 M. If its just the surcharge and it drops the 20% then its 19.975 M. At best for NY, adding JV on top of Judge would cost around 60 M, maybe as high as 70 M. No chance in hell they even consider that.

I guess the question is do they mean best overall, or best at outfield defense?

If it's the latter, fine. If it's the former, leaving off who os clearly #1 is just click bait.

I am not saying you're wrong, but we've heard this same argument multiple times lately about how the clubhouse couldn't bare without losing Springer, Correa, and even Straw.

Diaz aint no joke. He's been to 3 WS with this club. We've seen his connection with Alvarez. Why isn't he a loss for his intangibles?

General question to the board but our 5/6 man rotation, how does it compare to other teams, specifically NY/Bos/LA? I wonder if our rotation allows more rest to JV's surgically repaired elbow than he would receive going to one of the big 3 teams, where if things start to go south, they start throwing him regularly on 4 days rest.

JV is a smart guy and I hope he's taking all the angle into consideration. He certainly didn't jump to us back in '17 without doing a lot of due diligence (the Dallas Keuchel call as the final data point he needed to feel comfortable).

Speaking of which, if gets on the phone with one of the mercenaries for the Yankees or Dodgers, I wonder if he'll get the same kind of love Dallas gave us, or more likely, just trash talking our team and why he should he leave. I wonder how persuasive that argument would be. Something tells me it would ring hollow.

Diaz lost me when he went for the HBP rather than step up with the big hit. Basically, he wanted McCormick up with the game on the line rather than himself. I don't recall ever seeing that before from any veteran player.

JV needs to go where there is a 6 man rotation, period. The Astros are by far the best baseball/career option. We'll see if the money overrides that. I think the 6 man rotation set up the entire season as far as dominant pitching is concerned.

Click went out and got Dubon to fill the utility role moving forward. Hensley seems like another utility guy. Would signing Yuli as a 3rd sort of utility guy even make sense? I would rather have Yuli than Diaz every day of the year offensively when the pressure is on. Look at the difference in the postseason. Diaz couldn't hit a beach ball with a folding chair.
