I don't think we need to relive The Great Joey Gallo Trade Deadline Debate of 2022, but I don't see how eliminating the shift helps a guy who can't put the ball in play half his ABs

edit: Been a busy early offseason so that might as well be my entry into this thread. Let's go get a bat and keep JV. Not sure what Crane's plan is if he doesn't want Click

I have to admit I don't know what LAD is thinking. IMHO Turner is the better player and they let him leave.

Turner isn't signed yet.

I have a feeling the 3rd and 4th best SS may bring the best value. I could see Dansby reuniting with Freddie.

I hope it happens, to be honest. I would love it for the reaction of JT and Bellinger alone.

I suspect Turner ends with Philly with Harper. It really makes you wonder what Washington could have done to keep these players. Turner. Soto. Harper. Strasburg, Scherzer. They could have had an amazing team.

Is there a way to see the rest of that article? Apologies if I missed a previous post, but wanted to see the comparison portion to other teams of the past.

I've been talking about the "dynasty" label with a co-worker of mine that is a Phillies fan.

So the Dodgers are weary of the topic they have perpetuated for 3 years?

I guess having Mookie Betts has really been a drag on their collective consciences.

It did not stop the dodgers from getting mookie betts. But Correa may be such that he will openly talk about the dodgers and their electronic surveillance program to push back on the haters.

I made the mistake of opening that SI article but WTF?!? I know she wasn't around in 1919 but come on lady.

The pearl-clutching from that twunt is just absurd. The idea the Astros did something so far beyond the pale as to be irredeeemable is absurd. Any honest observer knows that the entire reason the Astros players were granted immunity was because of the fact that if they weren't they would have gone scorched earth on the rest of the league and all the evidence proving other teams were doing the same **** would have been made public and burned MLB to the ground.

Yes, the Astros were doing something against the rules but they were just better at it than all the other teams who were doing some form of the same thing and any player, coach, fan, or sportswriter/analyst/commentator who refuses to admit as much is a massive hypocrite who has zero credibility or integrity.

Fck them hoes. They mad.

What would it take for Verlander to go in as an Astro?
This is from an article about Jim Thome going to the hall

The cap decision is made by the Hall of Fame's senior staff and research team. "They'll look at a player's career numbers and look at the impact, and quite honestly, it's usually a no-brainer," Idelson told ESPN. "Then we have a conversation with the player, because we wouldn't do something unilaterally."

Same article noted that Gary Carter wanted to go in as a Met, but was overruled and went in as an Expo.

if Nolan Ryan went in as a Ranger, which is BS - should have gone in as an Angel because of his dominant years in the 70s, then Verlander should go in as an Astro.

Verlander should go in as a Tiger. That is where he became the hall of fame pitcher. Now, if he wins the cy young 2 or 3 more times where he has 4 cy young's with the Astros, that may change. But as of now, I would think he would be tigers.

All the more amusing considering they used video to steal signs as well.

Fairly clear many other teams were doing the same. The Red Sox, officially.

The only reason to resign him is not have to face him when it matters. He is not going to a lower tier team so you will see him in the Playoffs

Unless you are facing him in the WS, then you have a 1 in 8 chance of rocking him

I'd love him back. I think he wants to be here.

But i am okay with us not bringing him back as long as that money is actually spent to bring in some hitters and solidify the lineup.

the main reason I'd like to have him back is that he stays healthy for the most part and is a work horse. LMJ is made of glass and I have zero faith in him staying healthy and performing at a high level for an entire season.

Framber I have no worries in. CJ is dont worry much about either. Regular season wise I am confident, but come postseason if you dont have JV, and lets say LMJ is hurt. The team needs another top end guy.

Framber and CJ could be the two, but selfish me wants another. Basically you can never have too much pitching is what I am getting at.

I 100% agree with this, as well as my selfish desire for him to retire and go into the hall as an Astro.

JV is every much a face of this dynasty as Altuve, Bregman, Yuli and LMJ. Having any of these guys in another uniform just seems wrong at this point.

Bring JV back if the money is right, which means we still have enough money to shore up the offense (specifically 1B). We have depth at starting pitching and can start the season and do fine without JV. Nothing says we can't make a trade mid-season for another starter if we have performance and/or injury issues. Bottom line - would love to have JV back, but not at the expense of filling other needs we have.
