Also, Lee deal was 6 years. There really no comparison to be made

That's ridiculous. Now still buzzed from the night before, possibly.bigjag19 said:Prosperdick said:

I agree that's the better course of action.
Let's be clear on Nimmo vs Brantley. Nimmo is a career 130 OPS+ with a 133 OPS+ over the last 3. Brantley is a career 117 OPS+ with a single season (2014) with an OPS+ of 130 or better. Since joining the Astros Brantley has had a very respectable 124 OPS+. They're both good. Nimmo is clearly better tho.
Gilbert is ready after a combined 39 PA in Rookie and A ball last year? At least let him get a couple hundred PA in AA or AAA before we make statements like that.Bag said:

That's fine, but that doesn't make Brantley better. Brantley is better at putting the bat on the ball, but Nimmo still gets on base at an elite level. .404-.401-.367 over the last 3 seasons vs .364-.362-.370.kegstand said:Farmer1906 said:

Nimmo's best season K% was this 2022 at 17.2%
Brantley's career average K% is 10.2%
Nimmo's best BA was .292 in 2021
Brantley has exceeded that in 4 of his last 5 seasons, and hit .288 before injury in 2022.
I'm an OPS and OPS+ fan, but honestly in this lineup, I don't mind sacrificing a little bit of power in our 8th best hitter for the $ value, Leadership, and contact hitting Brantley provides.
You keep insisting Gilbert is ready. What are you basing that off? He had a handful of at-bats at the lowest level of pro baseball.Bag said:

Even if this was true, a AAAA player is still lightyears ahead of Gilbert right now in development.Bag said:

I appreciate what Chas did for the astros this year, but pretending he is anything more than a AAAA player is bad business
But he had a .654 OPS in A ball last year. That's not good enough?irish pete ag06 said:

Not trying to be a dick, but how long have you followed baseball? Are you familiar with how long it takes for prospects to develop? This isn't the NBA or NFL where guys get drafted and contribute right away.

I am 49 and have followed baseball all my life, please stop with the self righteous nonsense.
Gilbert is 22 years old, he is not a young guy, a year older than the current AL ROY.
How long have you followed baseball?
What I am suggesting happens all the time, there is a guy on the Astros that followed a similar path, his name is Alex Bregman, have you heard of him?

um, no, he graduated 2015, went to low A ball and by the middle of 2016 he was in the bigs playing 49 games in houston, oh, I will let you guess his age when this happenedLonestar_Ag09 said:Bag said:Oh gawd, give me a break...texasaggie2015 said:Even if this was true, a AAAA player is still lightyears ahead of Gilbert right now in development.Bag said:

Bregman spent almost 3 seasons in the minors and had nearly 200 plate appearances across multiple levels
He started out in low A, not rookie like Gilbert. He made it to High A in his first year. He had over 300 PA vs Gilbert's few dozen. He started in AA then AAA and had another 300+ PA. He got called up in July after raking all year long to a team that needed major help. We're in a completely different situation now and more than likely Gilbert isn't and will never be Bregman. But that's okay. He can still climb very quickly. I think 2024 is more realistic.Bag said:um, no, he graduated 2015, went to low A ball and by the middle of 2016 he was in the bigs playing 49 games in houstonLonestar_Ag09 said:Bag said:Oh gawd, give me a break...texasaggie2015 said:Even if this was true, a AAAA player is still lightyears ahead of Gilbert right now in development.Bag said:

Just so we are all on the same page. Breggy had 586 AB in the minors in two seasons before being called up. To suggest Gilbert is better than Chas right now is just foolish IMOFarmer1906 said:He started out in low A, not rookie like Gilbert. He made it to High A in his first year. You also don't need to downgrade Chas to boost up Gilbert. Whether you, Dusty, Click, or whoever doesn't like it, Chas has been an above average MLB player for back-to-back seasons.
mine is supposed to arrive today. Been on a Wells Fargo stagecoach delivery for the better part of two weeks.redline248 said:
