get Yuli and Brantleys experience and bat back, and both can DH/relieve Abreu and Yordan for rest days.
Definitely possible. IMO his days of being effective offensively for a full 162 are probably over, but I think he can still play plus defense.McInnis said:
I think everyone agrees that Yuli's days of being an everyday 1st baseman are over. But is it possible that the post season Yuli we just saw was due to all the extra days off he got in the playoffs?
Do not want Judge, and why wouldnt you just write Maldonado in the 9 hole...because that is what it will beDeluxe said:
If we don't sign JV:
1. Altuve 2B
2. Judge CF
3. Alvarez LF/DH
4. Bregman 3B
5. Tucker RF
6. Pena SS
7. Brantley LF/DH
8. Yuli 1B
9. Catcher
I don't think the extra rest hurt, but it could just be a case of a small sample from a seasoned vet who's not overwhelmed by the moment. I think we learned more about what Yuli has left in the 146 game samples, not the 12 game one.Deluxe said:Definitely possible. Ben McDonald....talk about someone who had a punch-able face. IMHO, this is about the only thing that ever came out of LSU worth a damn that I could stand.Farmer1906 said:**** that guy.Nino Brown said:The Porkchop Express said:I was 22 and vastly dumber (if that's possible). Someone didn't like your predictions?
We were both kicked out of the game and had to sign a waiver saying we wouldn't return to Kauffman that year. That was pretty funny because I was on a road trip and just stopped on a lark to see the game.
Talking about old stuff made me realize how bad I still hate Ben McDonald, thanks!
True, but the penalty for going over isn't harsh. It's 20% of the overage. He could go up to and pass the limit like he did in 2019 after the deadline, but he probably won't. I think 200-215 is a more likely range. That means we have room for about 21-36 M more after Montero's deal. JV would eat that entirely. Another thing to consider is that we have very little (~15-20 M between Maldy, Maton, Stanek, & Neris if we don't pick up his option) coming off the books after 2023 so whatever we do this year needs to pretty much cover next year as well.Ag4life80 said:
I wouldn't count on Crane going to the payroll limit before the season starts. He has generally left 15-20M in cap room for an impact trade. I don't think that's going to change.
I don't think there has ever been a guy who loves to talk about his very minor (in the grand scheme of things for baseball) accomplishments. Every A&M game he did, his stories about beating A&M would get mentioned.Nino Brown said:Ben McDonald....talk about someone who had a punch-able face. Yep! We went to all three games. Friday night was awesome. I just remember being blown away by the view/outdoor vibe in the stadium. Plus everyone was super friendly. If they are moving on I am glad I got to see it before the change.OKCAg2002 said:
Did you go see the Astros in June? That's when we went. Weather was 72 degrees on Friday night. Yordan hit a homer, good guys won, and fireworks. It was an amazing night.
I might be remembering wrong, but didn't they add draft / international bonus pool penalties for going over in the new CBA? I might be getting that and the QO changes mixed up.Farmer1906 said:True, but the penalty for going over isn't harsh. It's 20% of the overage. Interesting deal. Looks like Seattle is trying to make a run at the Astros.
Ok, thanksFarmer1906 said:
Nope. You have to go way way over for some minor rule 4 draft penalty.

Seattle will also sign one of the shortstops - my prediction is either Swanson or Correa.agproducer said:EastCoastAgNc said:BREAKING: All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernández has been traded to the Seattle Mariners from the Toronto Blue Jays, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

Their bullpen isn't that bad and their offense if at least top half of the league.Ag_07 said:
Keep an eye on the Rangers as a dark horse JV suitor.
They need pitching and are said to be in on DeGrom so they don't mind spending that kinda money, and kinda need a big splash signing to get butts in seats.
If he's going for the money grab as opposed to ring chasing and no one else wants to go that high then I could see that happening.
Interested to see what they gave up.loma_vista78 said:
Honestly that's a pretty fantastic move for Seattle
Erik Swanson. Pitcher with 3 years of control, who turned into a top-tier back-end arm last year.Beat40 said:Interested to see what they gave up.loma_vista78 said:

It is a good move for them, for sure.
I imagine they will try to lock him down long term like they did with Castillo. If he really only has one year left before FA and they don't lock him down, they likely overpaid for him.CFTXAG10 said:
And if I am seeing correctly Teoscar will be a free agent after 2023
Even with Julio Rodríguez in center and Teoscar Hernández in right, the #Mariners are not done looking at outfielders. I'm told they're considering upgrades in left field, where internal options include Winker, Haggerty, Moore, and Kelenic. @MLBNetwork @SeattleSports

Adam Macko - Top 10ish prospect in the Seattle system. Likely going to be in AA this upcoming season.
