no. I'm not underestimating anything. I watched damn near every yankees game last year. I have a pretty good grip on their situation.

If someone wants to argue that Rodon and Cole are the best 1,2 punch in MLB I can sit there and let you argue that, even though I wont agree. Outside of that they have holes.

Nestor is an average starter at best. Had a great first half last year, then leveled out to what he is. Avg to good at times. Sevy is a wildcard. He's good when he's not hurt, but then again he's always hurt. Montas is crap.

They are simply not the best rotation. Maybe not the best in their own division.

2. You're sleeping on Nestor. The body of work is growing. In his last 50 games (42 starts) he has a 2.61 ERA, 3.37 FIP, 0.979 WHIP, & 155 ERA+. That's outstanding for a #3. Technically, he was better in the 2nd half. He was elite to start and elite to finish. June and somewhat July gave him issues.

I don't think they have the best pitching staff in baseball, but it's not crazy to say they're top 5. And the separation between 1 and 5 probably won't be too big.

Okay, I think I understand the article better now. The ESPN starting pitching simulation assumes every starting pitcher gets a W/L decision for the stats. No "no decisions", no blown saves, etc. Every starting pitcher gets the win or loss. Makes more sense why it projects a half dozen teams to each have three 20 game winners.

That being said, it's an incredibly stupid projection. The ranking of the rotations may be reasonable, but to try to support it with stats and some half-assed projections seems dubious, at best.

#Astros signed P Bryan Garcia to a minor league contract w/ an invitation to Major League spring training. Garcia pitched in the majors over parts of the last 4 seasons w/ the Tigers. In 2022, Garcia was 2-0, 3.54 in 4 starts & allowed a .200 BAA (14x70).
