No more shift could mean quite a few more hits for these batters

No Tucker
No Alvarez
No Brantley

But it includes.... Alex Bregman

Quote:

Alex Bregman (Astros 3B)

+8 potential hits gained / 58% shift rate

It's interesting to note that after three years being shifted around 30% annually, that mark almost doubled in 2022 to 58%. It's not hard to see that as a reaction to how much he sells out to pull for power, as nearly 80% of his extra-base hits were pulled -- and just look at his ground ball spray chart. No wonder teams put three on the left side.

...

While the shift has long had its admirers and detractors, so much of this has really come down to a simple question: Where do we think this guy is going to hit the ball? Let's stand there.

Now, you might be asking yourself: Wait, what about Yordan Alvarez or Max Kepler? Anthony Rizzo? Where's Freddie Freeman? Us, too. We'll follow up with a look at the players you expect to be affected the most ... who may not actually be.

8 more singles would have improved Bregman from .259/.366/.454/.820 to .274/.378/.469/.847

Note this is very different from the previous studies.

Now that is an ankle worth a 14 year contract.

You know Bregman is getting ready to cash in.

I really loved the chemistry of Bill Brown and Jim Deshaies.

Unpopular opinion: Milo Hamilton was corny and annoying.

I agree, but he did have Dierker as his color guy for a while and he was the best.

Yall need to look into an IPTV provider.

May not be the most up and up thing but it's dirt cheap, reliable, and you get every baseball game from every team in the league.

Care to expand? What the hell is an IPTV provider? I'd love to be able to watch different teams.

Devers deal -- 11 / $331

That contract may not end up being too bad. Devers will be 37 at the end of it, and at 3B, that's not terrible.

I'll try and keep it somewhat since this isn't the nerdery.

I really have no idea how it works or what it is. Like I said it's not the most up and up thing but hey it works. This is the second IPTV service and we've had for about a year now.

Here's what I use. https://xtremehdiptv.org/

It's like $12/month and you get any channel you can possibly think of. Premium movie channels, NFL Sunday ticket, all MLB games, foreign channels, etc etc. They also have tons of movies and series on demand. They do have like a 3 day trial for like $5 if you wanna try it first.

They have an app but it's not offered through the major app stores so you have to jailbreak your device. We use a fire stick and the process take a couple extra steps but not too bad.

It does have it's shortcomings like buffering (but that's not a issue for me), guide is not always available or accurate, technical instructions aren't always clear (I had to YouTube some things to get it started) and sometimes it'll just cut out and restart the app, things like that. Since it's not our primary streaming none of that is a deal breaker for us. Small inconveniences is what I'd say.

If anyone wants even more info PM me and I can answer some more questions.

That can't sit well with Correa/Boras.

He doesn't have two legs to stand on when it comes to a contract like this.

He's already got one foot out the door.

He's got one foot in the grave.

He's a foot short of the goal line.

He shot himself in the foot on that one.

I'm guessing he will move to 1B or DH by age 30.

it's not pretty at the hot corner when ground balls come his way

That deal for Devers seems pretty good for both sides.

I love that guy, what he brings to the field, and the way he plays the game.

Did Carlos Baerga really name his broadcast "I Like the Sports?" Sounds like something I would have come up with after 6 weeks of 7th grade Spanish.

In the span of 3 weeks Yordan hit two of the longest and arguably most important 3 run piss missiles in Astros history. Maybe in MLB in the last 20 years.

One of my favorite parts of Yordan's epic blast is Altuve stays at 3B just in case it's caught to tag up. Dude, he sent that ball into orbit.

Just helping everyone make informed decisions on their streaming services.

I just think with internet prices what they are across all companies, if you only have one cable box and use smart tv apps or a Roku/Fire Stick for the other rooms or porches, prices are about the same with most steaming services now.

Then you never have to worry about it at all.

I can tell you how big a moment is was for two reasons.

1) I'll be 49 next month and I've been watching the Astros since I was 3 and never seen anything like that.

2) My wife and kids had performed their annual Astros post-season bandwagon maneuver and were watching with me. When I saw where it landed, ,I exclaimed loudly, HOLY ****ING ***** and was not reprimanded by my wife for swearing in front of the kids or my kids who have an ongoing ledger of anytime I've said a bad word in their lifetimes.

I still firmly believe we played at a B+ level in the postseason. Sure, 90% of the pitchers were A+ (looking at you JV & LMJ) but the bats never really clicked on all cylinders. What blows my mind, we still went 11-2. It very easily could have been 11-1 with a bunch of blowouts and less need for ridiculously clutch HRs.

I was on FaceTime with gf. I let out a massive yell. Then she said I made my o face.

I'll take it.

for me, turned from a "oh crap kershaw is gonna dominate us" kind of game, into a "this is going to be an awesome game"

and i was at the game, the release of tension/worry at that moment was palpable and explosive

What was great about Yordan's bomb was that it was the bottom of the 6th yet everyone knew it was pretty much over for the Phils. It was a dagger in the 6th

Astros dugout knew it, Phils dugout knew it, fans knew it, announcers knew it.

They way our BP was locked in the Phils weren't coming back from that. Hell Schwarber knew it when he tried to bunt for a hit.

The call of 'This game has turned upside down' was absolutely perfect because it really did. It was over right there in the 6th inning.

I still have to posture that the crowd has never been louder than when Bregman plated the game-winning RBi in Game 5 of the 2017 WS. I've watched it enough and even just listened to it with my eyes closed. We still weren't entirely sure we could win the World Series even as we rallied over and over again in that game. The noise is explosive as Fisher rounds third, but when he scores and the crowd realizes the Dodgers can't come back, it goes to deafening.

I'm so glad other people noticed that too. Altuve is such a damn pro. Everyone in the stadium, including Altuve, knew that was gone as soon as it was off the bat, but he still walked back to 3rd because that's what you're supposed to do
